my seat presets with the door open and no key in ignition has stopped working. it works properly with the key turned to on. any help appreciated. 2001 Lexus LS430. I am trying to select the already set positions from the outside, not set new positions. It worked until recently and according to the owners manual it should work with the door open and no key for a 30 second period.

I think that you should be in PARK, and with the ignition on, I believe that's how it was to enable you to preset the seat how you like, IIRC.

My RX300 can adjust the seat presets with just the door open and no ignition on. My LS on the other hand, needs the ignition on to adjust the seat presets. Is it possible that your's is normal? Or is mine also broke??

Yours is also broken. According to the owners manual it should work with no key and the door open for 30 seconds. page 167 in the owners manual.

Problem found- The door switch below the striker bar that latches the driver's door had a loose mounting bolt. This also affects the interior light that comes on when the driver enters the car.

It is the driver's door switch that was a loose mounting screw that was causing my problem.

That mounting screw is likely what's used to ground the connection so that would make sense.
