Question Wavelength of LASER cruise control?

This question has never been answered on the LS430 forums, although asked indirectly once or twice. What wavelength is used by the LS430 LASER (not radar) cruise control? Is it 904nm, 905nm, or something else?

I suspect other Lexus/Toyota models with adaptive laser cruise would also use the same wavelength - does anyone know the wavelength of ANY Lexus/Toyota/Denso laser cruise modules?

Per https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...r-removal.html, the Toyota part # is 88210-50030, Denso part # 457330-0174.

Please provide supporting evidence for your answer. Bonus for pulse duration and cycle length. Thanks in advance!

905nm. Used on Lexus and Yota. Omron LIDAR sensor located in lower bumper.

The article written by Toyota / Denso engineers below indicates that it is 850 nm. The range of the laser diodes wavelengths is from 850 to 950 nm. May be it is country / manufacturer / year of manufacture specific ????

Then click on preview paper on the right column

Great article from 1998. That is the early science & engineering explained for ACC adaptation. (Note statement: "Brake control is planned to be adopted the future." Brake control is on the LS - 3rd Gen and Yota vehicles that employ laser cruise.)

Police use LIDAR laser for speeding tickets.

Does the Lexus ACC use Omron or Denso equipment ? I thought it was Denso as the OP specifically gave the Denso part number...

I've read this article before, and if you read carefully, it doesn't specifically say Omron makes the unit for Toyota. It just says Figure 2 shows a picture of an Omron sensor, which does not look like any of the ones used in Lexus/Toyota vehicles.

There are other manufacturers of LIDAR sensors, and that most LIDAR ACC/LCC systems as of that article's publication date use a wavelength between 850nm and 950nm.

That SAE paper 980615 indicating 850nm seems to be the most likely answer, as the paper was co-written by Denso and Toyota, and published just 2 years before LCC was to be first deployed on a Lexus/Toyota vehicle. The Japanese article at https://www.denso.co.jp/ja/aboutdens...sertation7.pdf also mentions it is for the 1997 LS400 with a 850nm wavelength.

Thanks for the replies!

The Denso part number doesn't show anywhere.

I've actually really never tested it. I turned it on 2x in seperate occasions but my car was getting too close to the car in front thinking it was going to slow down so I backed off. I don't want to wreck into the rear of a car testing it, if theres some sort of malfunction with the system I don't know about. Whats the best way of testing it? How close will I need to be behind a car for it to slow down?

There are 3 adjustable distance settings for the laser to manage the distance from the vehicle ahead of you. (Middle button on left side of steering wheel controls.) You will see distance change on the dash display screen as you run through the 3 settings.
