Default New Windshield = Auto wipe wipes when dry

Got a Pilkington windshield replacement last week. Now my auto wipe setting activates and stays on the intermittent cycle with no rain.

Any ideas?

Hold the insurance company and/or the installer responsible. You shouldn't have to try to fix something that wasn't done right the first time.

Make them do it over, regardless of whatever is the problem.

2005 LS430 - I just replaced my windshield with OEM glass, because Safelite told me that aftermarket glass had serious issues with the rain sensor on these cars.

After installation I had the same problem, the wiper would come on randomly. I noticed something in the sensor "window" and took it back. The "tape" was torn so they removed the tape and replaced it. Backed out of the shop and the wipers started up again. THEN, they put 2 "tapes" - (which appear to be some kind of silicone) - reinstalled the sensor and drove my baby around in circles in the parking lot about 20 times to reset the computer.

Works perfectly again!
Hope this helps!

Circumstances like this you have to use oem windshields due to sensitivity.

Who installed your OEM windshield? Did your insurance cover the cost of the OEM. If so, who is your insurance company?

Default Installer says it's the blue tint.

I used Pilkington glass by request. The installer came back and put a new gel type sticker on the sensor but it's doing the same thing.

He then told me hours later on the phone that after research that the glass is the problem and that it needs OEM glass. He said they're trying to find one somewhere around the country.

I think that's ridiculous as he'll find only the expensive OEM glass for $1500 or whatever it is.

I can't believe that Pilkington make aftermarket glass that breaks the wiper sensor when they make the OEM.

I also see a bubble on the gel sticker which could be doing it as well. Will insurance pay for this now or am I stuck figuring it out on my own with no leverage?

Default Update: OEM getting installed

After pressuring the installer of the Pilkington after market windshield, they agreed to install the OEM through my insurance if my insurance USAA approved it. It was approved so I'll only owe the difference of $30 once installed. Good ending I guess but there's more.

Now I have something that rolls the length of the dash when I make full left and right turns. I suspect a nut or bolt or something got dropped down the front dash defrost vents during the replacement.

Any way to get that out? Do the vents come off/out?
