Default New 2003 LS 430 Owner

I thought I posted yesterday, but post seemed to of never went through

Anyway Me and my wife became new owners of a 2003 LS 430 on Saturday. Went out car searching after our 99 Camry's engine blew. Never intended to come home with a Lexus, but after searching throughout the day and test driving newer cars the LS 430 sold us. It is possibly the most comfortable car I have ever rode in. It currently has 143k miles on it. I have called around today to possibly look at timing belt and water pump replacement. Anything else I should look for? The car dealer we got it from had oil changed and all of that already.

I looked at the Lexus drivers website and this is what it has for this past January. Nothing had been entered since 2007.

Default New to the board

New to the board from Charlotte NC. Just got my first Lexus and it is a 2003 LS 430. I tried posting a picture in my other thread, but it has not posted yet, so not sure if that's what was delaying the posting or not. Just wanted to hookup with other members for advice on my next steps of owning this car.

Current Miles 143k

Beautiful car. I love mine and I've owned a LS400 and GS400 and this 430 blows them out the water! You and your wife will most definitely enjoy your 430

Also you can get the sereo updated so you can use Bluetooth/NAV/DVD etc. I installed a Pioneer AVIC 5000 ($500) then the car is perfect! Even uses factory amp / sub / speakers.

Oh I also went around and changed every ligt bulb with the LED version. Domes/make ups/ courtesy / under mirrors etc - really updates how the car looks too.-if you update all teh lights or stereo, go on amazon and get a plastic car interior tool kit- so you dont scrape or mar the plastic.

Congrats on the fine example of an LS430.

Does it have Navigation? If so, you may want to get the most recent (and last ever) DVD map update. The system is a Generation 3. Navigation discs for that system split the U.S. into East & West versions of the disc, depending upon where you reside. Available very reasonable here > East: http://navidvd.com/lexus/26-2014-bmw...-disc-set.html West: http://navidvd.com/lexus/27-2014-bmw...-disc-set.html

Once you own this vehicle, you'll be forever hooked on it. Safe travels!

Thanks everyone. So far we are loving the car. We did run into a little issue though. On Monday we had the master warning light (Red triangle) and VSC off light come on whenever we put car in drive or reverse. I went ahead and looked on some forums and did the jumper reset just to see if they may of come on due to a diagnostic tool being hooked up. The lights stayed off, and on my wife's way home today the lights came on again along with check engine light. She took to Autozone and the code came across as P0430 which is failed catalytic converter, ignition, or fuel system problem. She took it to dealership we got it from and they took it to their service place down the street who looked at it. My wife did not get all of the details but she was told by the sales guy at the dealership that they needed to replace the "Power converter". I have never heard of this, so maybe they meant catalytic converter. Either way the dealership agreed to foot the bill for the repair and it will be done on Tuesday of next week. I will let everyone know how it goes.

I guess one common failure is a headlight sensor corroding and seizing up. Its on the driver side rear wheel. It's sort of a pitman arm that floats up and down with the car's ride. It just corrodes but takes 5 mins to replace. I would get ?VSD (or FSD I dont recall) error when the car was wet or carwash until i replaced that sensor. I think I found one new for $180

Honorable dealer. Could be an O2 sensor.

Quick Update:

Dropped car off this past Monday at the shop where everything was getting fixed. Asked for a bit more info and they confirmed it was a catalytic converter. Got the car back yesterday and so far so good. Have put about 40 miles on it and no lights.

Which Lexus dealer was this? Hendrick Lexus of Charleston? Or is that just where the vehicle was last serviced?

That was info I had posted from the lexus drivers site where it shows where all the car has been. Last reported location was in January of this year in Charleston. I bought the car in Charlotte 2 weeks ago.
