LS430-Tire tires discussions (The Mother thread)

I'm getting the 245/45ZR18. They were in stock. Kinda pricey ($862 OTD) but I really like having the dealer install them versus adding a separate service provider. Worth the extra cost to me.

They are excellent tires for my needs. Smooth and quiet. I really have not driven on them aggressively, and seem to perform well up to in both the city and highway. I had old Falkens, and the car used to be difficult to keep in its lane without a lot of constant correction .... the Contis eliminated this completely.
Drove them in light snow and in the rain and they were excellent, nor slips or slides even though I actually tried to see if I couls slide them. I do have 4 snow tires, and the only reason they are not on the car now is I want to see how the Contis drive in deeper snow.
They are a high performance tire, I think rated at up to 175 mph, so I won't be pushing them to their limits, lol. I thought about Michelin, but they are overpriced where I live and the tire shop who sold me them said to " drive on them for 3 weeks, and if I don't like them I could return them for full credit " .... I am keeping them !

Sounds good. I won't be driving aggressively either, and will never approach most performance limits of the tires. But the rain and snow capabilities sold me on them. We are expecting 3" - 6 " of snow tonight and tomorrow so I'll get to test them right away!

Ok, we've gotten through the 17 inch snowfall so I think I can reliably rate the Conti's. The snow traction was very good, almost as good as driving my FWD minivan. I got stuck once, briefly, and that was only because I turned onto a sidestreet in Minneapolis where the berm was high. I was able to back right out with no problem.
Driving before the snow hit, the car was smoother, quieter, and handled better than it did on the OEM Dunlops. My mother-in-law even noticed, and she hardly pays attention to anything car-related.
I think these are a good choice for those (like me) who live in a winter climate but don't want to change tires twice a year.
BTW, cost at the dealer ended up being $712 plus mounting/balancing plus tax. About $870 total.

I've owned two 04 ULs and I've had everything from Michelin PS2, to Goodyear ComforTred, Bridgestone Turanza Serenity to now Michelin Primacy MXV4. I have to say having recently switched from Kumho Ecsta ASX to Primacy, car drives completely different now. Totally isolated from road irregularities, and much smoother, comfortable ride. Primacy FTW!

This is my first post however I have been a long time LS lover and owner. I wanted to get new tires as the OEM's that were on the car were badly worn. I had Toyo Versado's on other cars and decided to go with them in the 245/45R18 size. They handle perfect, very good responsiveness and excellent in wet weather. However I am getting a resonating sound and it is not road noise. 65 mph it is noticeable and at 75 it sounds like a tuning fork...mostly from the front. At 85 it can be felt in the steering wheel as a super fast vibration, not a shaking but just resonating up through. The tires has 350 miles on them and about 200 of those miles on dry roads. I do not want to live with this issue, and do not know what to do to correct it. I am scared to get the Primacy's because I feel the rubber is too hard with a 600 wear rating...living in upstate NY tires typically get flat spots and I do not want to feel the shake. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks!

Trombough1 - take the Toyo tires back while you still can if you are unhappy with them. If you read the posts on this tread many owners are reporting happy with the Primacy (including me) or the new Continentals. I'd go with either of those if they are available in your size. I have 17s and went with Primacy and am happy with the choice.

Primacys might not be good in cold
I know the Primacy's are good in snow and wet however I live in upstate NY which is why I did not get the Primacy's, I heard that because they are such a long lasting tire the rubber compound is harder. And even though my car is garaged it only gets to about 30 degree F in there during the entire winter...I do not want to start my drive off with a thump thump thump for the first 10 miles....I hate that! The Versado's handle well but just last night at 82 mph the front left was screaming... and the rest felt great... no vibration, perfect handling, and comfort that I was looking for. Remember I have the stock 18" inch wheels. If I lived in a warm weather state I would get the Primacy's for sure.

Make sure you go for the V rated Primacys.
