Default 245/45r18 tire suggestions

Got to buy (right at Christmas--whoopie) a new set of 18" tires. I've always liked Michelins and I know several on here recommend them; however, the LS is going into semi-retirement and will not be driven every day and a new set of Michelins will be around $1,000. Any suggestions for a good replacement tire brand that won't cost an "arm and a leg"?

Goodyear RSA's..... I have the 18's also. Was on the car when I bought a year ago. Run very smooth.

Continentals were really good for me, ContiProContacts and they will easily be 25% less expensive.

Why do all of you go to Costco? They don't have the latest hunter road force balancer machines which provide the best balance ever for the tire/wheel and gives read out that shows bad tires and bent rims. Costco complaint are very high with people having low profile rims and luxury cars because they cannot detect the problem well and I only take a discount car to that place. Buy them on tirerack and get them installed and properly balanced to prevent vibration and to rule out defective tires or marginal tires from factory for better longetitivty and smoother ride. With my Lexus, BMW, and Audi I never ever get them mounted without the hunter road force balancers. Or else vibrations will happen which has been common with regular cheap old dynamic balancers that are not calibrated properly at high sales tire places like costco, belle, discount tire, etc. Poor service and poor knowledge.

Yes, Costco does not have the equipment to balance wheels on cars sensitive to slight imbalance and I would not trust expensive wheels to them.

I was a Tire Rack "ho" for about 20 years but Costco has beaten the pants off Tire Rack on total cost on the last 12 tires I've purchased - 8 Michelin MXV4 and 4 Bridgestone Blizzaks. And that isn't counting the end-of-year rebate from Costco.

Costco did a fine job of installing and balancing tires on our recently departed Camry but can't begin to get the balance right on an LS which goes to the Lexus dealer to have its Costco purchased tires installed and balanced on their Hunter road force balancer.

I've had one issue each with tires purchased both from Costco (wrong size of one tire on a cash and carry) and Tire Rack (max allowable tire pressure not high enough). Costco is local (1.8 miles away) which made exchanging a tire easy. Returning a set of snow tires to Tire Rack was a hassle.

Lastly, we "buy what we own". We don't own stock in Tire Rack but we do in Costco, the shares of which pay dividends and have appreciated VERY nicely in value over the years.

A plus for Costco for me. At any time when the car feels less than perfect I go back to Costco and ask for a rebalance. No questions asked or mileage requirements necessary. Also, with nitrogen, I've never had a drop in tire pressure. What's better than that?

I put Continental all seasons (DWS) on my 2005 LS430 about a year ago and have been very satisfied with them at about a third less than any Michelin model.

Does Costco do your oil also? Seems it is pretty easy to rotate tires at 5k oil changes for efficiency.

No, Costco doesn't do oil or any other service besides tires. Maybe that explains why they do a good job, as that's their focus and don't get distracted by other "sales" and "services" that typical oil change shops do.

Cant believe I found someone to recommend Eagle RSA's lol. Sorry but they are horrible tires.

Continental DWS as mentioned are pretty good All Season tires.

I'm considering going to an 18" wheel on my ls430 but i've heard there will be some sacrifice on ride quality. Any opinions vs. 17" will be appreciated.

There is absolutely no problem with the ride of the 18" wheel.
