Default LS430 Factory Wheel Options Thread -

Folks,
Many of us have the factory wheels. I would be OK with the stock silver steel wheels. I have good rubber on mine. However the wheels have some bubbling and nice chips where the finish is scuffed off.

I live in Illinois, so I get snow, salt, rain etc.

I called a powdercoater but I am unclear- do we need bead blasting, etc? I don't know what cost / quality would be the final product. It may be $110, but then I need to pay for prep etc.

What have guys done to keep the factory wheels looking as good as the paint?

And of course what was the cost?

I use wheel wax on both the inside and outside of the wheel - in Illinois.

If you are re-surfacing your wheels with powder coating, you should have the wheels bead-blasted to do the job right.

I have chrome rims that look like crap, Car lives in PA, I have had no luck finding someone to fix my rims. I tried buying used ones but they are mostly destroyed. Still looking for a decent aftermarket solution that looks good or a powder coating.

Plastidip rubber spray is an easy inexpensive DIY solution if you just need a look change, and cure of minor scuffs.

Be careful if you've got the chromed wheels if there's any sign of bubbling. The chrome starts peeling and can result in wheels that don't hold air. You'll start getting slow leaks.

Best to get other wheels.

The chromies can be stripped but it's costy. Once stripped they could be rechromed but powdercoating is cheaper and probably better.
