Default rambling coolant thread

Ok, this all stems from having the dealer change my coolant, and having it look orange 2 days later, in the dark at 5 AM, looking down from the reservoir cap, and opening the radiator cap. I expected to see bright pink, but saw orange.

So I got me some pink sllc2 from Walmart. It is clearly pink when you pour it in a clear water bottle, in daylight.

This stuff plays tricks on you. Drained the entire reservoir 2X with sllc2, and refilled with pink sllc2. In the dark, it looks like you have orange coolant, viewed from the top. This stuff in a clear water bottle in daylight, looks pink. If you hold it up in the dark, it looks a bit orange, esp at an angle looking at the top of the fluid, i.e. the meniscus (not your knee, the top of the fluid level!). Shine a light through it, it looks pink. Now I understand some posts I've seen where people are questioning what they've got, and from the pics, looked like Dex Cool to me (Prius).

I don't think I'm crazy, as I believe there are others who were concerned as well....wasted an entire gal. of 50/50 in my experimentation. I have 5 bottles of fluid which I can analyze in the dark, in daylight, at various angles, etc., including a sample from before the exchange at the dealer....yes, next time I'll DIY, assuming the dealer created a level playing field/clean slate

this thread may illustrate what I am saying color wise

And this pic looks like what I see at night or with a flashlight, orange to me

edit: (what I am saying is if you drew this into an antifreeze tester and held it up to light, it would in fact be bright pink--the residue at 9 o'clock is pink in the mouth of the radiator
