Default California emission?

Good morning all and thank you for this informative site.

I am in the process of locating/purchasing an '04-'06 Lexus LS.

I live in the most southern part of Texas, South Padre Island, and the pickings down here for clean LS's are scarce. Upon retirement, I moved here from Oregon. With that being said, I have found a couple of good prospects back in my home state and elsewhere..

My question is this. One of the cars came from Santa Monica, Ca. Will it have a more restrictive emission control than a vehicle from another state?

Tried a full search before posting, but I sure could have missed something. Thanks for any help and as I said before, Great and informative site! I look forward to perusing its depths further to help in my research.

All the best!

I am not sure, however, there was a time upon which cars all imports seem to have started to follow Calif. emissions. Meaning, my 1998 Maxima is a Calif. car, and at the time, there was a Fed. car. This has proven to be a PITA in 2016. I know that GM still had a fed car, a new england car, a Calif. car, as late as 2011...

I asked this very question in Oct. 2006 when I was ordering my 2007 BMW--and at that time, BMW had gone to 50 state cars. One would think that Lexus was there as well? I ought to lift my hood and check as my car was sold in FLA. Will post a pic of the emissions label....(my car would represent what "another state" would have looked like in 09/05)

OK, so as I had suspected, my car meets Calif. emissions, is a 2006, and was sold in Naples, FLA. As long as nothing weird was going on, this would imply that at least as of MY 2006, Lexus was producing 50-state cars....hope that helps! If in doubt, just look for the EPA sticker on the driver side top edge of the hood, and if it says "and to California" then it for sure meets CA emissions.

Again, appreciate the info. My concern that a "California emission" equipped machine might be somewhat clogged with "extra" emissions equipment is abated.

Thanks so much for your efforts on my behave.

All the best

With the cars I've come across and not necessarily with this model LS430, the manufacturer may have a different type of catalytic converter installed. My suggestion would be to check for a catalytic part # difference from a CA and non CA car.
