I wouldn't blame you. At 5-6 week oil change intervals, best off letting someone else do it - time value of money!

For what it's worth if you use a quality full synthetic and one of the oversized filters you can safely go 7500 to 10k between changes.

I use Royal Purple 5w30 and Motorcraft Fl400s or 20-400 royal purple filter. Even after 7500 mile intervals the oil still looks almost new. It's a 65.00 DIY change but at least you know it's top quality and done right.

Nothing against the thought that quality oil lasts a while but today's generic Walmart Supertech Synthetic oil can last the same and with the same protective capabilities as the branded version...proven with oil lab test results...I just buy whatever is on sale and have been slowly extending out my intervals to 10K between changes or once a year, whichever comes first. If the car is a garage queen with less than 1500 miles a year of extremely rare driving, I would probably change oil every other year. If the car is a stop and go queen in LA traffic, I would not hesitate to change oil every 4-5K miles.

I'm now due for an oil change, so I'll be taking it in next week. Lexus charges 57.00 dollars for the oil change. They check all the fluids and that includes a thorough cleaning, so I'm content with having them do it. If I was changing the oil, it would be 25-28 for the oil and filter, 20 bucks for the car wash and interior vacuum, and a couple bucks for the tip. I could do it but it's just easier to have them do it.
Nice, have never been up there, but have a sis in-law in Kenosha that we've visited, and in-laws in Evanston, IL. I can see taking it in. Went to the Soldier Field Dead shows in '15 (took my then 1 1/2 y.o. son with earplugs), right after doing some work in Bensenville IL.

When my BMW was under extended warranty, I still had the dealer do the oil. It had gotten super cheap, as low as $54.95. At the time, ordering the oil online with the filter kit was roughly $70 shipped. Those deals were intended on luring new customers in. Slowly, the prices rose and leveled at about $80 (Greenwich CT maybe $160, varies). Then, suddenly, Walmart started carrying 2 oils that were BMW approved--Mobil 1 0W40 Euro, and Castrol Edge 0W40 Euro. Car takes 6.8 and 5 qt jug was ~ $25, and so the DIY began. Last year, M1 lost its approval, leaving only Castrol.

With all the oil changes I've done in my life, I still think I may pay, when a car is under warranty, and to get it on the carfax. Maybe not, my wife's I DIY and it has 2 yrs. left on extended warranty. I DIY because her car does not require synth, it requires a synth blend, and so I don't trust the dealer to really use synth, and I want to use it. In my long-winded way, I'm trying to say I see many reasons to let a dealer do it.

edit: On an older LS, like you've said, they wash the car, etc., and it will be on Lexus Driver and the carfax too...btw I put my oil change on Lexus Driver but it does appear differently than the dealer, i.e. can be edited...
