Oil Analysis on 169K LS-430
Hi All,
Figured I would share my Oil Analysis with you all.
Stats on Car:
2005 LS-430
169,000 Miles
Daily Driven
Amsoil XL 5W-30 Oil with Toyota D3 Oil Filter Used.
Mileage on Oil and Filter at time of Analysis 5,983.
I normally change the oil and filter every 5k, I just happen to extended it to almost 6k.
Well the Analysis came back great and they suggested I try to extend next oil change to 8k miles.
I will have another analysis done then and compare.
File with all the results attached.

The thing I would question, based on my wife's car having an oil life monitor, and seeing it actually respond to all stop/go when she worked 1.3 miles from home, and then for the interval to extend when the car was mostly highway driving.... is that here we're assuming the conditions do not change....meaning, if the last change was all highway miles, and suddenly the commute changes to all stop and go, the interval would likely need to be shorter...I think that the 5,000 mile interval probably is uber conservative and can cover all stop and go, which maybe was the only way it could be done prior to having a monitoring system....It would be interesting for somebody who has all stop and go driving, to change their oil and have it analyzed at 5k--would the lab say this is good to 8-10k (maybe), or, would they say, this oil is just about done, good you changed it....enquiring minds want to know!

Finally joining this forum. I've had this car for about 14 months.
Tom58 - Here's an example of year old+ oil on a Blackstone report. That was my main concern when buying the car. It was being sold on behalf of the owner by his daughter and son-in-law - the owner had to be in his 90s - so there was probably a lack of maintenance toward the end. Seeing the first report was concerning but it cleared up after a 5k mile synthetic interval.
First oil change after I bought the car - unknown age on the oil. I believe it was a couple years old.

Thank you for posting the results. I was hoping for an analysis from someone who doesn't drive many miles and changes the oil less frequently.
I had an analysis done at 1 year, and 7,500 miles with oil and filter from a $20 quick lube place, that filled it to the lower line of the dip stick using 4.8 quarts (instead of 5+ quarts).
This was the right interval according to the analysis.
I'm thinking about doing my own oil changes, using fully synthetic oil and OEM filter, and wondering if 18 months and 6,500 miles might be ok.

Although I haven’t done an oil analysis on my LS430 I can address the question of oil age by another car I recently did an oil analysis on. The vehicle is an ‘00 Pontiac Formula WS6 (1 of 243) with 30k miles that I now drive 600-750 miles per year. It runs AMSOIL Signature Series 10W30. After two years Amsoil told me to order the TBN/TAN tests as the concern is that the total base number would drop below the minimum recommendation and the total acids would rise. After the results came back fine (change filter & continue on oil) I was told that in climates with higher humidity the additive package could drop, lowering the oils ability to resist corrosion (reason to test for TAN). With a rise in acids the base number could drop, meaning it was starting to get less effective. If you live or store your vehicle in a humid climate be sure to add TBN/TAN to your test. Every oils formulated differently so spend the extra $ to test those parameters.

Interesting. How did TBN compare to brand new oil?
Did they say why the oil filter should be changed?
Your annual mileage is extremely low, but it's somewhat re-assuring that they told you to keep the oil after 2 years, considering that Lexus tells us to change the oil every 6 months regardless of miles and oil type.
