Default Scan Gauge II on the LS430

I'm getting the Check Engine light, and I have a Scan Gauge II that I used on a previous vehicle. Has anyone ever used it on the LS430?

It makes the VMC light go on.

OK, does that affect the quality of the diagnostics available with the Scan Gauge? Does it affect anything else, any long term effects?

I have used it several times on long trips. It is in my 4Runner mostly. It does not do a good job of reading codes IMO. It does not make any of my lights come on.

I don't have any direct experience with the SG but I own an Ultra Gauge and keep it plugged in and monitoring my Nissan Xterra 100% of the time. Before that it was in my Subaru Forester and I used it to read and reset codes there more than once. Totally adequate for that and the gauges it provides can be very useful.
What makes you say that the SG oesn't do a good job of reading codes?
The UG never caused any lights to come on. And on the LS, which is my wife's car, I've never had any MIL code come up EVER! I've owned this car for almost 14 years now. Never even bothered to hook up the UG to the LS just to see if it worked. What a great car the LS430 has been now that I think about it! I'll defer to the guys that have tried the SG in the LS430 but I think in general the SG is considered a 'better' device than the UG.

Just plugged the ScanGauge II in, checked for codes, and the following came up:
P 0440, P 0441, P 0446
Any clue as to what these are???

First thing to check is to make sure your gas cap is on tight or that it's sealing properly. Those errors are all for the evaporative emissions system...

I erased all the codes; they haven't returned. But, I'm thinking that maybe I should just get another gas cap? They've been known to fail...
