Custom X pipe exhaust question
Hay whats up guys I'm planning to upgrade my exhaust, but i'm not sure what route to go with as in the piping route Y pipe or X pipe?? If you guys have any pictures of your setup that would be great! I also plan to remove the resonators and stick with the 2.5 in piping.
Thanks in advance!!!

question....why not turn it into a true dual, would it cause a performance drop due to the back pressure? My '07 335i has a true dual exhuast from the factory (one exhaust comes off of each turbo, has an x-pipe, then a h-pipe in the rear). It's interesting that this setup went away in 2011, as it was costly, especially since everything now is done through software, not hardware...I know back in the 98 Maxima days people wanted HP out of an aftermarket setup...what are we looking for today might be the question...

Personally I like quality....so if there is a way to out engineer the engineers, that's sweet...but I hate junk. An example, Walker lifetime exhausts.....my Maxima's oem aluminized lasted 12+ yrs. in the northeast. The walker that replaced it lasted 18 mos. And, nobody would honor the warranty. It was as if you'd have to ship it back to them to inspect (nobody would do that cost prohibitive)....wonder how long a factory exhaust lasts in a rust belt state...

I think the stock piping is just under 2" inside diameter. I am still running stock cats. After changing the exhaust set up on my LS400 three times I wanted get it right the first time on this car. It definitely changed the way the car behaves when you put your right foot down and it's not loud at all.

I changed out my muffles a few years back to Jegs highflow mufflers with a 2.25" piping and the car sounds good but i think the x pipe upgrade with the resonator delete will help it bark a bit louder.

I wanna do this, looks clean and professional. But is the interior drone ok in your opinion? I will be the only occupant 90% of the time and I like my exhaust to sound good, but when im with the family we will drive in my vehicle and wife doesnt care for exhaust. THANKS!

You want to do an x pipe or h pipe no y pipe, x pipe for up high power more "exotic" sound and less rasp, a h pipe for low end torque and more of a muscle car sound. The ls430 does not have have 2.5 piping it has 1.9 piping stock. The small cats connected to the exhaust manifolds are fine there is no reason to take them out that they are so small they have 0 effect on flow and its illegal as well to tamper with emissions equipment. The 3rd "cat" is the 2nd most restrictive thing on the exhaust so remove that stock mufflers keep the stock resonator and replace the rest of the piping with 2.25 and your car should sound fine.
On to your piping choice 2.5 inches is way to big and you will loose tons of low end tq. You want 2.25 piping, 2.25 piping can flow up until 400 hp then it cannot evacuate the exhaust efficiently. 2.5 inch piping is good till 500 hp.
