Default Mpg between ls430 and es330

I have an 04 es330 and do mainly city driving of around 70/30

How much of a hit might I take ? I'm hitting the pump at refill at about 18.5mpg on the es330

Hi fark, we have an 06 LS 430 and I track every fuel pump with fuelly.com. After 16K miles, with a mix of 75% city/25% highway, I'm averaging 18.7 MPG overall. On the freeway the 430 can get between 27-28 MPG @65-70 MPH. But around town fuel economy drops. Not bad for a V8 though, as it is still 5% better fuel economy than the 3.5L V6 we had in the 2007 Sienna. Hope that helps.

I get 22-23 mpg in my 05 LS430 if I take it easy and never go past under 50% throttle open on the tank. This means not accelerating towards red lights to keep people out of your lane, gradually speeding up on the freeway, coasting as much as you can, minimal brake use, etc.

My 98 SC300 gets about 24-25 mpg with similar driving.

For a V8 pushing a heavy car down the road with technology that was developed in the late 1990s this is incredible fuel economy. Other Japanese V8 RWD sedans like the Q45 were pigs on fuel that would almost never crack 20 mpg....the gen of Q that ended in 2001 got more like 14-16 mpg.

Couldn't agree more here. I commute to work everyday. 78 miles each way, so I'm averaging just over 3000 miles/month which 90% is highway driving and I average 27 to 28 mpg. City mpg is a little different story. My wife drives the 2005 mostly around town short trips and she's averaging 13 on the last fill up.

real world from 6 1/2 years of commuting with 4 cars. My Maxima and BMW were almost the same, @ 21.7. Forget about my wife's car, very bad.

The LS430 has about a 1.5 - 2.0 mpg penalty, which is not bad for a V8 with 312 ft. lbs. and an automatic--both the Maxima and BMW are sticks. (I don't care what the faked EPA numbers [15% of cars are actually tested, the rest self-reported] state, sticks are more efficient)

If the ES is similar to a Maxima, then I would say "only" 1.5 mpg penalty, which is worth it. If one takes the LS430 on the highway, resets the mpg computer at highway speed, say 65 mph on cruise, that computer should gravitate towards 27-28, mine does....
