Default DVD of maps for GPS

I purchased a DVD of updated maps for the GPS. I put it in the DVD drive and it runs with the GPS program. But is there a way to upload the DVD into the GPS so the DVD doent have to stay in the drive where it can be damaged by heat?

It's safe in the Nav unit below the trunk deck. Never heard a report of heat damage. Also, the (non-dealer) disks are inexpensive and easily replaced.

The CD player below the navigation screen is a 6-disc audio player. The Map DVD should go in the trunk. Check out this DIY I posted a few years ago. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...placement.html

Thank you, Thank you. I was completely ignorant of this second DVD drive. The audio drive was reading the DVD fine, but probably not allowing the GPS to use it....LOL

Will updating the DVD also update the software. That screen is terribly outdated.

When I updated my DVD disc in the player the first thing it did was to update the software also. There will be no change in the screen resolution or appearance when you are finished though...

I was more interested in easier controls and more contrasting colors. The subtle pastels are not easy to see in daylight. The multiple areas make long distance planning more difficult. The software in my dash mounted GPS (Win CE system) in the TownCar has controls to change the colors. And the complete software can be changed with an SD card.

As much of a fanboy I am of in-dash, OEM navigation systems, be warned---the Lexus/Toyota's GEN4 (2004-2006) has surprisingly very VERY bad navigation algorithms and calculations, even with the most up to date DVD installed. When going on long trips into unfamiliar territory, I always rely on Google maps on my phone (I know--data charges). For some travelling entertainment, I also do enter the destination on the LS and reduce the volume all the way. I then just LAUGH at the ridiculous directions the LS attempts to send me. (I have all the route settings set to my preferences). You can get lost, pun intended, with trying to figure out "things" on the LS's navigation, too. Oh yea, make sure that you're not moving either, because most of the buttons won't work while the car is in motion. I found that aspect so annoying after purchasing the LS, I placed my annoyance into my signature, lol. Good luck!

I found the controls to adjust the brightness and contrast !!! Not easy to find, But I found them and corrected the problems and I got the 2016 DVD installed. But, you are right, the controls are NOT intuitive.

Hey guys not meaning to hijack this thread but can someone tell me the latest nav dvd available for a 2001 LS430?

I called the dealer and they said the most up to date they had was updated 2013 and would cost $169 !!??

I've seen them on ebay for $10 but I'm not sure what I am looking for exactly. Is there a part number or version number or something that I can look for?

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you go to mylexus.com you can find a table that shows what P/N disc goes in each yearly model of LS. With that information you can easily go to eBay and be assured that you get the proper DVD.

2001 LS was the GEN2/3 navigation system. The GEN2/3 is compatible ONLY with the DVD's that have BLUE colored circles on it. Here's a cross reference on what to order. Note that the GEN2/3 final map update was 2013.
