Default buddy asked if the LS can go 436k

Said his buddy has a 300TD that's currently at 436k. I said I doubt it.....because imho the diesels from the 80's were not beefed up gas motors.....

My gut says a LS sails through 200k, simply because you see them already on cars.com I believe there was a Maxima (4th gen) at 479,000, so a Japanese car from this era could do it....just might take lots of maintenance and some repairs, but then a person would have to want to push it that far. We've only got so much time, right? We may decide 200-250k is enough, want something else...

I have seen at least 5 old diesel Benz that have 350K+ miles on them. I think 436K is definitely within reach for them.

Ooops, I meant to say that I doubt the LS430, mine specifically, will get to 436k, not that I doubted his buddy's 300TD is there, and that diesels from that era were much sturdier than those of today, which can be modified gas motors.......remember a friend's parent had a 300D turbodiesel, and I think it was 5 cyl. It was built like a tank and cost over $31k in 1982 (I remember this kind of stuff)....a neighbor has one, but no clue how many miles...

300TD - I remember those cars - engines were built like a tank but things like repeatedly failing window motors and other electrical problems would bleed you dry once the car was more than a few years old.

Remember my buddy bragging....my dad's car is one of the most powerful diesels in the world (not sure what it would be anymore, 120 HP?), and I said, I'm pretty sure Amtrak's got even more powerful diesels than that.....I'd give anything to go back in time and be sitting with those guys at the age we were back then...there was another incident where my friend's dad was questioning why there was so much brake dust on his rims, and apparently I said it's a result of "performance driving," implying my buddy did it? I actually don't remember that incident, was told about it last year, and both friends concur that it happened....actually the buddy who started the 436k question, is a lover of diesels, and wants to get an 80's MB "someday." His dad had an S class diesel, not even sure what model that was, but it was baby blue....somehow 300 SD is what I think it was, 300 SDL came later?

Again, not that it couldn't happen, but I somehow doubt we'll see 3rd gen LS' at 400k and above, but I wouldn't doubt 300k....
