Quick update - $185 per wheel to powder coat, plus shipping and tax. $32 per wheel to remount the tires. This puts me at $920, plus shipping, which would be roughly $50 per wheel. That's $1,120.

This price seems high to me. What does powder coating cost in other markets? Am I getting hosed because of the type of wheel?

Frustrated...

am I reading this correctly, @ $85?

http://www.wheelmedic.com/Wheel_Medic_Inc.html

I found that place from this thread

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-...l#post10133739

Also they mention these guys, and this may be the co. that is camped out at local BMW dealerships 1/wk....

Yes, $185 per wheel plus tax and shipping. $32 per wheel to mount and balance tires.

2 places wouldn't even touch them because of the brand and the value...

I'll check your links when I get some time today.

Thank you!

Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists were the worst. Would NOT advise anyone to contact them. Customer service was very poor.

I found a great place to ave my wheels powder coated. Alloywheelrepair.org. Poughkeepsie new york. Very willing to talk me through the process, helped me pick a color and with an appointment, they will remove wheels and tires, dismount tires, clean/prep wheel, powder coat and reinstall, high speed balance and lifetime warranty on finish for $99 per wheel. Offered references and lots of photos. Making my appointment today. In the meantime, I'll get the calipers done. Going to leave them on the car to paint them, just for convenience. Lots of masking and it will be fine. I've done it this way before. Then a white Lexus caliper decal.

John - Did Skip Barber Driving school in 1998 and we spent all of our seat time in BMW 540i's. Expensive school, but well worth it and amazing cars! I think a late model M5 may be in my future.

Rick, sounds like a good find! Poughkeepsie would be driveable for me, as I purchased the LS430 in Westchester....

Been "browsing" at 08-09 750Li's online, I know a fool and his money are easily parted....some sweet '08's with 52k miles go for $17-$18k, FLA cars? I know, I know, there's a reason, but wouldn't it be nice to live dangerously, throw reliability and caution to the wind, and ride in a fine flagship like that, 275's in the rear, 245's in the front, gazillion way power massaging seats...the '09's are around $23k with mileage in the 50's. I remember attending the launch of that car at a reception. My first taste of the LS430 was one in the low 60's, an '06, and the dealer wanted $22k, what a joke. That was last August, my how prices have crashed down to earth!

btw my cousin has a E39 M5, and he always says it's a big heavy car that goes fast, not satisfying like the M3 he used to have...(E36)

Yes, I am driving them up. Taking a day out of this office and taking a book... Let them do their thing and I'll cruise back home. Glad I found someone who wouldn't gross me on the price! I was surprised how many people refused to touch them because of the brand?!?!?

haha good luck, the shop does sound good...

I can picture you calling around....

"Wait a sec, you say the rims were made in Italy? Nah, we can't touch them, I'm not even supposed to be talking to you over the phone about Italian made rims, I gotta go, this conversation never happened, if you say it did, I will deny!..."

That was like shopping for tires for the Ducati's. "What kind of bike is it?" "It's a Ducati 900SS" "Oh we don't usually stock parts for BMW's..." Or the SAAB 9000 Aero sedan... Why do I always buy the strange stuff?

Can't wait to get it done, and post some pictures. Want to get to the calipers ASAP, but rain is expected all weekend. Don't like to paint when humidity is high.

We did a Porsche event in 2015--I followed the link again just last week, and it said sorry this program has been discontinued! lol

But it had autocross and lead/follow--lead and follow was in a Cayman S, Cayman GTS, 991 Carrera S, and 991 GTS, unreal. We were instructed to floor the vehicles on the straight, ok, whatever you say! Because my wife only took one turn in the Cayman S, that meant 2 turns in the 3 remaining cars, or 7 runs for me! The autocross was done with a warm up in a Panamera S, and the timed event in a Panamera GTS. The instructor told me, you're always on the gas, or on the brakes, never coasting. If you're coasting, you're losing time.

I have to admit, Porsche has a more impressive array of cars, but BMW does put on a very excellent event (although it was with 540i's two weekends ago, in the pouring rain, no M's etc.).

Looking forward to seeing the rims and calipers--do you need to remove the calipers, or do they get done on the car? Oh, and anytime I get down on our smartkey system still having a thing to twist, I believe Porsche is like that today! And that was a big step for them, having a traditional key and fob. And yes, the key belongs to the left of the wheel, the handbrake to the left of the seat, and R to the left of 1!

That event looks like a good time!

You do do know why the key on the left side, right??!!

I do now, after I googled it! Some things should not change, a Porsche's key, a Saab being put in gear before the key can be removed, and a guy driving a minivan being a last resort when all else has been exhausted (I had a buddy tell me his AWD Sienna is actually pretty peppy and fun to drive?).

Made me think of this.....

Rims completed last Friday. Skipped powder coating and went for primer, color, clear coat, and it looks great! OZ Ultraleggara 18x8. Had barrels painted as well. Hate to see a nice set of rims, but first color is right behind new color.
While rims were being painted, I did my calipers in a satin black. Next up is coilovers and drilled discs new bads. Probably going for the sway bars and bushings as well.

Thank you! I went with Toyo Advan Sport S 245/35 R18. The seem nice so far, but I'll probably go back to a Micheline tire next time. I did add 3mm spacers as the rim was very close to the front calipers.
