Wheels back from Powdercoater!
Hi all -
just wanted to share my details on refinished wheels. I looked at Detroit wheels and reviews were hit and miss. I called around to powder coaters and for a grand total of $400 - that included $90 per wheel (bead blast, baked them, some sanding scuffs, the silver paint and the clear coat) and $15 for unmounted/remount at the local tire shop they work with.
They are completely painted front and back.
My thoughts:
Wanted stock wheels because...
-Tires had good tread
-No fitment issues
-Known good wheels/OEM factory stuff
-Reuse center caps
I think they look great - it suits my daily driver and they should last a long time!
I will certainly mention that if you get up real close you can see 'orange peel'. It dosent matter to me and you cant see it unless you are bent down looking for it.
It was a good option - I preferred to work locally rather than ship in full set of rims and 'hope' they look good.
Cheers guys!

I used to visit Peoria for Avanti's. Great subs!
Is powder coating supposed to remove scuffs? I zoomed in the front wheels and noticed the scuff marks were covered but still noticeable.

No it dosent remove scuffs. It's basically very hearty paint. You can google up the process if you're curious.

Happened to my RX wheels. I called about 10 places. Most either said flat out NO or the cost was 3X more than buying new wheels. I thought it was a simple job but I guess it is very involved and very costly.

2 Year Update- powder-coated wheels- Thumbs up!
Wheels still look perfect after 24 months, a zillion miles in the crazy Midwest weather.
Certainly worth the effort to keep the OEM's looking good!
