LS430 sales prices
Out here, the good 04-06 prices seem to doing ok. Sure, still going lower but not very fast. Saw the attached and decided to check. Dealer, 90k. Nav, etc. Called. LOL. Four owners. No service history. No TB. Low tire pressure light.
A good 04-06 is still 10-12 private, 13+ dealer (altho they take awhile to sell). There's a one owner, 66k, full service 05 Premium (Sports) Small dealer asking is 16.5. It's been sitting for a more than a month.

i am the guy that doesnt mine paying for a premium car that is over the top condition with a very good service history (the garage queen).
it took me over a year to find the top 1%,a 93 SC400 the garage queen with great service records, not a scratch or a road chip on it and the paint is showroom condition as with the interior.I had to travel 7 hours to pick her up and have been happy ever since.
i wont say what i paid for her but i paid a premium.
i am thinking about a corvette that buy a vette has so i better stop using the computer until it sells.LOL

I'm torn, I'm really satisfied with my used '06 LS430 purchase, because what car can one really love, where they pay 14 and change, and don't have to take out a loan? And then, actually think that they're going to be trouble-free for hundreds of thousands of miles? I feel that getting 28 mpg on the highway, and 19.x combined, is decent, even on premium, especially for a V8. Ok, back the truck up--most people today, in 2017, would consider 19 poor, and 28 highway not that great. In the 4 cyl. full-sized world, it's more like 29/40, etc. So 28 is in the city, not highway. That's the only negative that I can think of. But, they're not doing 312 ft. lbs. either.
So, yes, I keep browsing at 2006 LS430s online, to see who's selling what. But I don't think it would be wise for me to drop say 12k on another one. Still, I'll browse. It may be more sensible to browse at LS460L's, and buy one for 25k, in a few years. Let the LS430 go down as perhaps the best LS ever, but get with the modern times. Who knows....although a last thought is to buy a LS430 with play money, what one can afford to not worry about. I don't think that's 10k, but some lower number...

I don't think it's time to jump to the LS460 yet. The 400 models are (98-2000) are approaching 10 years old and most are still running strong and look good on the road when taken car of. The 04-06 430 models still have some good miles in them an will last when taken car of. If you really like the 430 the I say get the colors you want with the miles/condition you're willing to pay for and just enjoy it. I'm eyeing an 05 model a the moment that I might pull the trigger on.

In my area, unless you have one under 100k miles and is at some dealership, I would say most 04-06 are going for under $9,000 for private party. With a lot of them in the $7,000 range.
The 01-03 are in that $5-$6k range.
The ones that go for a lot more are usually at "buy here, pay here" type dealerships that have a pretty excessive mark up.
As much as I like these cars, I can't make a case for paying like $15k for one with 90k miles and have it fall off a cliff in value.

I've owned both, and I can say unequivocally that the 04-06 L430 is a better car than the 07-12 LS460. Don't let the body and gizmos fool you. The 430 is better built, more comfortable, quieter, and rides better. Everything a luxury car does, the 430 does better than the 460. Which explains why the 430 dominated the market as the best in it's class, while the 460 is pretty much an afterthought and routinely near the bottom in comparisons with others cars in it's segment.

and therefore, a well cared for 01-03 represents truly one of the best values out there for reliable, economical transport. Perfect for a young professional with the good sense to not want a car loan, or a college student needing low cost solid transport, etc.
People ask me for car recommendations all the time and that's where I steer them.

I agree the 01-03 are screaming bargains.
I like the subtle cosmetic updates on the 04-06 (mine is a 2004) but it's 99% the same car for almost double the price.

What were these car new in the US?
In Australia, LS430s were give or take ~200k new, and you can get a rough '01 for ~5-7k, up to ~25k for a mint 06. Thats some pretty crazy devaluation!
I'm looking to get one within a year after I sell my GS300, aiming for an '04 on with black interior for around 10-12k AUD, but it really depends whats around then.

Realty Check Here... All LS430s are now fairly old cars. Yes they were very reliable for many years but time has a way on tearing any reputation down. Old is old and paying premium dollars even for the lowest mileage LS430 might not really be cost effective. Whatever I have repaired and spent on my 130,000 mile 01 LS430 I can and should expect to spend on any newer 04-06 LS430 regardless of miles just due to age alone. There is no free ride here. If anyone want to spend high numbers for a super low mileage LS430... just be prepared that if you own your jewel long enough, be prepared to reach into your pockets for the same or similar repair I and many owners on this forum have spent. Yes if you purchased your car new and kept it for 4-6 years, you might have escaped some of the more expensive repairs... but time has now evened the playing field.....Everyone now owns an old car with lower miles or not....still old. Make your choice, but I'm not spending in the Teens for any LS430 knowing how expensive repairs are for a 10-16 year old car. Just my 2 cents. What do I know.

Time alone doesn't level the playing field with high mileage vs low mileage cars. I have an 04 with 21k miles and one with 128k. The 21k mile car is almost flawless and even smells new. Everything about it is better. The paint. The interior. The ride. Everything is near showroom. Age hasn't changed that. If I drive it to 128k miles like my other car, I expect similar results when it comes to repairs and maintenance. No epiphany there. But low mileage, well-maintained cars are almost always better than high-mileage cars of the same age and will command a premium in the market. Age certainly matters, but mileage is by far the bigger determinant of a car's condition and value.
