2001 LS430 tweeter bypass/replacement/surface mount?
ML system all stock.
I just did the refoaming of the ML speakers including the sub and all repairs were successful.
Now that it all works I realize the dash tweeters are putting out nothing.
I searched and read the sticky on the system and I didn't see one possiblity for avoiding the dash nightmare for tweeter replacement.
Question:
Wouldn't it be possible to bypass the factory tweeters with a surface mount replacement by just tapping into the signal from either of the tweeters?
We know the specs for the tweeters and likely the crossover, any reason retrofitting tweeters wouldn't work and avoid the dash disassembly?
I'm so close to having it all sounding great again.

High frequency speakers such as tweeters are not subject to large voice cone movement and therefore are rarely "broken". Even if it is broken, it should still generate sound. If no sound is detected, you're likely dealing with a loose connection or broken wire. I would start troubleshoot from the amplifier and work your way out to the tweeters. Attached is the electrical schematic for the 2001-2003 LS430 audio system.

Yes, you can replace them . I have changed the dash in my 2005 UL LS430 and have seen the tweeters. You can get the grill off from the top but the tweeters are mounted from the underside. If your tweeters are truly not working you could likely remove them forcibly from the top. You could then expose the wires and use an aftemarket tweeter that fits. The tweeters are angled across the dash to the opposite passenger and are actually fairly large as compared to the average aftermarket tweeter. You should have plenty of options to replace them with.
