Default Anyone changed the stereo system from the mark levinson?

I might be keeping my car for a bit but would like to upgrade the ML system. I have navigation too.
Has anyone just put in a new head unit like in the cd player slot, replaced all the speakers and just bypassed the ML unit? I still need the touchscreen for climate and other features, but I can live without the nav audio. It's so old it is kind if useless anyways.

I have seen pictures of a headunit in the CD player slot but never done it myself. Usually people buy the Beatsonic kit and go double DIN.

As far as the speakers go, I've been wanting to do this for both of my LS' as I want a setup like how you described. The Beatsonic kit is pricey and I would put in new speakers anyway.

No one has cracked the software to bypass climate controls working on another device. Just don't use Nav.

There are BT/AUX interfaces available to help pair your phone. Also, a couple people have used Miracast to integrate Android Car with the stock head unit.

I have a unit for my ipod, but I am just not enamored with the sound of the ML. I understand much newer MLs in the LS460s are much better.

I have a Pioneer double din right now using the Beat-Sonic kit. It definitely improves on the fullness of sound. However, I am planning to hopefully put in my full system (5 channel amp, front & rear speakers and sub) this summer. I have all of the equipment and wiring. Only issue is I travel quite a bit for work, and a lot of it is last minute.

I installed new wiring for (4) 2-way speakers (1 amp for the door speakers) plus installed a powered 12" sub in the truck. I also used the Beat-Sonic kit with double-din Pioneer headunit; . I didn't want to touch the factory wiring so that's why I ran new wires; did all the work myself- sounds like a concert hall because of my 13 channel equalizer within the headunit. Any questions just PM me.

The Beatsonic sounds like the way to go, but isn't it about $360+? By the time it's all said and done it is probably more than I want to spend on a car worth about $5K. I'm selling it within the next year and a half to go to a LS460 so I probably will just hold off.

If your doing that I would hold off as well; not worth the investment.
