Throttle Body
my 2002 ls430 was averaging around 13-14 mpg inner city, I was told that was normal on day I decided to check my throttle body after doing a full tune up. in doing so I found that the throttle body was filled with gunk around the plate, I went to Auto Zone and bought a throttle body cleaner and decided to clean it myself, having removed every component in the car that would allow me to clean the throttle body I had my wife sat in the car turned the key but not fully ignited and asked her to push down on the accelerator gentle until the plate was completely open. with a soft rag I sprayed the throttle body cleaner around the inner throttle body and wipe until it was clean on the upper of the body where it was hard for me to see I spray some cleaner and wiped it until there wasn't any more gunk appearing on the cloth, after that was done I asked my wife to gentle release the accelerator until the plate was closed. everything that was removed was put back in its place. then I try starting the car which took about three tries, the car started in a high idle I let it run for about ten minutes, the idle was a little higher than before so I removed the positive of the battery for about five minutes allowing the computer to readjust. after that was done I took the car for a long drive hitting the highway. here is the results I got
