Just read what Kenne Bell ( a leading manufacturer of superchargers, and original designer for the Buick Grand National turbo)) has to say:
Kenne Bell - Tech - FAQ - what is the most ridiculous aftermarket product.
Personally I cannot see how a wrapped intake pipe can prevent hot underhood air being sucked in by the filter cone

There was an error on my part with the title I should have labeled it short ram intake air box, but the wrap I am using is supposed to reflect the heat away from the pipe and once I make the heat shield with air ducts it should work better and make more sense.

Actually, I think the extrude hone LS400 vs headers LS430 would be a close race, having personally seen the benefits of extrude honing on V8 intakes. I think it would be closer than you guys think!
As far as the lid? It depends how well you could get it to seal against the hood to prevent engine bay heat from getting into the intake air charge. Ideally, intake temp measuring would be the way to go....I suppose you could go seal to hood first, and if it doesn't work as a lid later.

What's your opinion on this I am going to use 3m window urethane on the top then buy some vacume hose slice it in half and use that to make a seal against the hood.
If I end up making a lid I am gonna make it go over the entire thing and bolt to the radiator support so if I need to change a lightbulb it does not involve destroying something lol I honestly am still drawing up the plans but I will be making it tomorow so we will see what route I decide to go.

Soft-bodied rubber hose makes an effective seal, it compresses to follow the contour quite well and lasts longer than A/C foam strip etc.
For those watching the photos: please remember that it's still in process, don't duplicate what you see.
Why?
Because the cone filter is taking pre-heated air from the back of the radiator core at 195° thermostat temperature.
Until the shield is in place what you see is far worse than stock.
In addition to blocking all underhood air, what entry point are you considering? From what I've read, just using an available opening in the grill, etc. isn't as effective as it looks because the nose of the car creates a bubble of turbulence ahead of the car that confuses air intakes. Many have used a trumpet with a bell mouth extending ahead of the nose to get "clean" air.

So the brown paper is going to be the aluminum tubing and the cardboard piece will be remade out of aluminum or steel flashing both will have heat reflective tape on them, that is what the end result should look like.

Well, I hope this works for you. Kudos to you for coming up with an original idea. Your last name isn't MacGyver, is it?
