Default CEL, VSC lights, and vibrating

Got the Check VSC, VSC Off, and a CEL along with vibrations at idle toward the end of my morning commute. Once I'm not at a standstill, the vibrations are gone and the car drives perfectly whether it's vibrating or not. Also heard some very slight tapping from the engine at start up that went away and one of the belts sounded loud enough for me to think, "It's not normal for an LS to be so noisy," yet I couldn't hear a thing from inside the car.

Would recently replacing my PCV valve, hoses, and grommets have anything to do with this? Any ideas about what could be going on? Seems as though most of the solutions in the threads about the VSC lights and CEL do not apply to my scenario because I have a vibration along with those lights. Of course, I will get the codes read but wanted input from the Club Lexus community.

once you get the codes read, you'll know the problem. I had the same lights with no vibration and the repair cost me $ 240. Good luck, hope its nothing major.

We need to know what the codes are to be able to steer you in the right direction or what other symptoms there are have your dealer check balljoint tie rods things of that nature maybe it could be something as simple as a bad tire or unbalanced rim.

I have 1 code: P1330. The receipt says...

Definition: Igniter circuit malnfunction (no. 7)

Probable cause:
1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Failed ignition coil/igniter
3. Ignition secondary fault

Igniter #7 is the last cylinder on the driver side.

Be careful with the plastic electrical connector because it's usually brittle and can break easily. Never pull on the connector by the wires.

RKW is a truth-talker and speaks wise words of wisdom! (I don't think it's your balljoints or a hardware/suspension issue to throw a code.)

I didn't see what year your LS is, but your profile says 1996 LS400!? Assuming that's up to date/accurate, you posted in the wrong forum. Always wanting to help, I looked up the P/N for your ignition coil and I found the part # to be 19080-50011 and it costs about $98 (OEM). I'm sure you could find it cheaper if you searched around.

The 1996 LS400 ignition system had the traditional cap/rotor setup! I learned something today! You can see the illustrated parts breakdown here... https://www.mylparts.com/auto-parts/...on-system-scat

If your LS isn't 1996 as your profile shows, disregard my post, but please update the year of your LS so we can help you.

I put the balljoint thing in there before he posted what code it was I was just trying to help for all I know he had a code for evap or something and forgot to tighten his gas cap when filling up lol I was just thinking that he had bad steering wheel vibrations when he was driving so that's the first thing that came to mind honestly.

Thanks for the info and tips everyone. I really appreciate it. I'm a novice at repairing cars. Is this something easy and quick that any fool could do or should I have my mechanic or the dealer do it?

@LS430 in DE Sorry, forgot to update my profile. Recently traded in my 1996 LS400 for a 2002 LS430.

@05ls430518 Thanks for trying to help with the ball joint thing.

Also, I'm a woman lol.

Dosnt mean anything my wife works on the ls with me and pics out mods so no worries here. I would order a coil pack make sure you have cylinder 7 and replace it it's a good beginner thing to do it's unclipping a plug two bolts take the old one out put the new one in relatively easy.

That's cool. I just mentioned it because a few people that replied thought I was a guy. Thanks, I will go ahead and call the Lexus dealer for the part number and get it ordered or pick it up and I'll look for a tutorial.

Ok....so now we know you're not a guy, we're going to have to charge you shop fees and disposal fees with our answers.

Haha, just kidding of course!

For your 2002 LS, the coil is approximately $95. The part # is 90080-19027, and it's item #1 on this diagram at this link... https://www.mylparts.com/auto-parts/...on-system-scat You might be able to find it cheaper if you shop around online.

If you're mechanically inclined and do things like changing filters or even the motor oil/filter, you can definitely do this repair if you simply purchase the part. If you're afraid of chipping a nail, lol , you'll most likely save a few bucks if you buy the part yourself, and take it to a mechanic to have him do it.

Let us know how you make out!!

LOL! Thanks for the link. I'm going to pick up the part from my local Toyota dealership to save time.

I think I'm mechanically inclined enough to do it.I like to keep my nails nice lol but I'm just a little nervous because the last time I tried to do a repair on my LS400 transmission pan gasket & filter) it turned into a nightmare.

Also, I called around for some repair quotes just in case. Two Lexus dealerships said it would be around $250 and that the location of the coil didn't matter in terms of repair costs. My Toyota dealership says they think it would cost closer to $150 to fix but it could be closer to $500 if the coil is on the back end of the engine because they'd had to remove part of the engine to get to the coil. Which dealership is right in my scenario?

There full of $h!t you dont need to remove part of the motor ask people you know for a good independent shop this repair should be like $80-$100 no more its unbelievably easy were are you located maybe a CL member would be willing to help or have a recommendation for a good independant shop.

This repair should literly take 15-40 mins.

Thanks. That's exactly what I thought too. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't need to do much more than remove the engine cover to get to it lol.

I can only make it to the dealers because of my work schedule but the regular indy shop I go to said it would be $225 and the indy Toyota specialist said it would be $325. I'm assuming these quotes include the cost of parts.
