Default Burnt out LED Tails... an epidemic?

About 2 months ago, the top section of my outer passenger side LED tail lamp burnt out, and the one under it began to flicker. I found a new OEM tail light on eBay, paid like $240 and had it shipped here, had it installed, within two days, the top section of the new one is burnt out again. I can only assume this is a wiring problem now?

However, I've been paying more attention to it in traffic and have noticed that a number of 04-06 LS430s also have burnt out outer tail lights.

Is there any explanation for this?

I just checked mine in a reflection yesterday, and they seem to be ok? I rarely see LS430s so have never noticed anybody else's as being burnt out? Since yours was OE from eBay, one would think the part is legit and not the issue....I knew the 7440 high mount is a common replacement, but didn't know the tails were...

I haven't noticed this phenomenon. Just the other day I was thinking that I have rarely ever seen any Lexus or Toyota with burnt out lights.

IIRC, the solution is simple soldering...there's a post somewhere...maybe in the FAQ's.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I have paid attention over the last week and seen 4 04+ models with some portion of the outer tails burnt out. Oh well.

I too have had more than one occasion to notice tail lights for the 04-06 are out. Not so much with the 01-03. It is a possibility, that as our cars are aging, and ownership has been transitioning from two 2, 3 or more owners, when the owner finds out the cost of replacement, they just pass on the repair. Changing the light bulb on the early models is no big deal other than the plastic sockets are usually brittle from age and heat.

You've seen 4 LS's in the last week?? I'm lucky if I see 1 other LS in a week. They're just not that plentiful around Milwaukee. I've seen a few on the freeway during my commute, but just a few..

Without exaggeration I see LS430s all day long. Can't count them all. They are like Camrys. When I go to the dealership (JM Lexus) it's amazing how all the LS430s line up for service with these old grey haired owners that can barely see over the steering wheel. These owners will not take their car anywhere else but to the dealer.

When I bought my 04 LS430 Ultra, it had the right rear tail light replaced twice also. But all seems well now good luck

Top portion of one of mine is also burned out. Dealer noticed it and quoted something astronomical to fix it so I passed, intended sometime to look into fixing but never have.

There are LS430s everywhere around West Knoxville. It's a fiscally conservative area so people hang on to stuff. Mine is all paid off I have zero desire to get rid of it until it literally dies. I don't want a car payment when I have a perfectly great car I own free and clear.

I see LS430's all the time here in Atlanta. More 04-06's than 01-03's. Usually driven by an older person, usually a woman, but I've also noticed a lot of young men speeding around in them too.

Guess you're not buying a new car for the next 20 years ....(think about it literally, there are tons of mid 90's Japanese cars driving around today--I seem to see more GS300 and 400's than I do LS430s)

p.s. I think the same way as this is how I was brought up. Go to the general car chat and see how our cars are referred to as "very old cars," like we should not be within 300' of a Lexus dealer without an escort
