When I finished my 5 speaker refoam job I was blown away by the sound of the ML system using a cd. Alas I had been using a cassette adapter to play from my iPhone but now realize (with working speakers) how terrible the sound is from that. Upgraded to the USA Spec BT45-Toy . Now I can’t tell the difference between cd and iPhone Bluetooth.

Asked my wife how she liked all these marvelous and hard earned improvements to HER car: “I thought it was fine before”

No matter. I love it! Worth all the pain.

Since the sub can be removed, I wonder if it's better in sound and easier to replace it with a new sub with the right impedance than using the repair kit? Of course it's more expensive but still great for diy compares to going to dealer.

From what I understand, when the rear shocks are being done is a good time. I just used silicone from above and no issues in months and I was cranking Skynyrd at 50-55 at times (Second Helping and One for From the Road). It got me thinking the buzzing was annoying and something has to be done, but in the big picture of our cars, the subwoofer isn't a huge deal. Too bad aftermarket doesn't have the same impedance....

I am very happy with the results of using the Simply Speakers repair kit. I happened to need rear strut replacement, at the time, so pulling the rear interior killed two birds. It's not bad if you take your time, and there are enough detailed instructions on here to make it fairly straight forward.

Not even sure when I did the silicone anymore, feels like half a year or more ago. It's still held up. Maybe key is catching it when the buzzing starts no idea. It just to me seems like too much labor to replace with new, jmo ymmv

I think it's much easier than removing the real seat and panel to get to the sub.
I noticed my front door speakers will need to re-foam also but will wait for a while

I'm about to do this repair soon as well. I ordered my subwoofer and some dynamat tape from eBay.

I just did this. I had decided, as did the OP, that the stock rear sub was the best choice. So, I got mine refoamed. And did the install myself. Thanks very much for this very useful information.

If you need a factory Sub, there are a couple of used ones on eBay.co.uk as well as some upgraded ones from LexusSparesDirect but you are looking at £170 or more.
If you have the Mark Levinson audio system, then you need a 16 Ohm Sub.
Non Mark Levinson (Pioneer?) systems use a 2 Ohm Sub.

Mine died completely (so could not re-foam) so I ended up buying a Sub from Dayton Audio and adapting the OEM Sub's plastic carrier to fit it.
Once broken in it mellows nicely and sounds excellent.

I’ve got a mark Lev sub laying around that I pulled from a salvaged car if anyone needs one. I snagged it just in case I ever blow mine - I had previously repaired the blown one with simply speakers before I found this one. I think I still have it listed on the market here on clublexus.

I just repaired my sub following the pictures and instructions in this thread, along with the Simply Speakers videos. All worked perfectly, and it didn't take very long as far as actual work time. I let everything dry/set for a good amount of time so that extended the total time of the job. Thanks to the OP for the pics, and to all for the helpful comments. This thread should really be pinned.
