Default Considering 06...

Hi everyone. I’ve been out of an LS for a couple years and am currently in an es350 which I don’t love. I’m considering jumping back in to an LS. Thoughts on this one? Has had timing belt done via the Lexus drivers page. Seems a little overpriced. If I can’t get it someone here should!

Nice car. I like the color combo. Most likely will need to add $1200-1500 for water pump/timing belt plus miscellaneous.

I would get it if it was local to me. I paid more than that for a very similar one without the ML or Nav and around same mileage.

Looks very nice but definitely on the high end but if it's in your price range and checks out then go for it. For that price it better have a great service history and no wrecks. When was the timing belt done and did it have the water pump done as well? They headlights look pretty clear which means there is a good chance it lived in a garage which also means the steering wheel is in good shape. Check out the door regulators on all of the doors, stereo amp and sub, as well as the tilt/telescopic steering.

I would say if you're serious you probably need to jump on it pretty quick. They will probably come down some but this gen LS in that kind of shape are getting harder and harder to find.

A cream puff LS430 with only 60k miles is pretty rare these days. Could be worth premium price if good service record, garage kept, and no accidents. It won't last long. At 12 years it needs a timing belt service. I'd deduct 1200 for that or make them do it as part of the sale.

Interesting, my car was also sold by a Buick GMC....in 10/06, my price was $14,700, they were asking $15,800, 81k. For my price, they ended up doing the front brakes with Lexus OE, and the driver door actuator.

1 1/2 yrs. have gone by, and their asking price is 2k less, and the miles are 20k less....it's in the ballpark. But of course, nobody advertises their lowest price, I would offer $12,500, assuming no accidents. And, if it turns out some seal on the tranny is leaking, or a door actuator doesn't work, or there's no coolant in the overflow, or the brakes are not 75% new, the agreement is they take care of it...maybe you say 12.5, they say 13, you say 12.75, done. I like the mileage on it...

Thanks all. The timing belt was done around 50k miles. This car Isn’t close to me so that complicates things. I really like the car, just not sure if this is the right time for me. Lot to think about.

That's a fair asking price at a dealer for a somewhat unusual color combination. For comparison, I paid $12,250 in a January private sale for an '06 ML with 62,000 miles (original owner, all service records, always garaged, never hit, no paintwork), but the timing belt had not been changed.

That same store recently had a super low mileage (less than 20k) '05 or '06 for big money and it sold promptly.

Yeah I was looking at that one too, it was a white one. Kinda weird that they have gotten two very low mileage cars within a few weeks of each other.

My .02 is that at any dealership which sells new cars, if they put a vehicle as old as a 2006 for sale, it's got a very good chance of being a decent specimen. Anything that's questionable is sent to auction. 1) they stand to make a very good margin as they gave the person trading in not very much 2) selling junk ruins their reputation, at least they're at the top of the pecking order in car sales {which may not always be saying much}

Agreed, being this old and at a dealer it's probably a good one. This one probably won't last long if it's even still available. The dealership is probably going to double their money on that one.

I would have paid the extra money a year ago when I was buying since I like that color combo and for a brief second I almost thought that I should check on this one myself but it's 9 hrs from me and it's just not a big enough upgrade for the extra money and hassle over what I already have. I'm still putting car payment money aside to potentially move to LS460 in the next year or two.

Good find!

Our 04 is the same exterior color. We have the black interior. The car looks very nice and the timing belt done is a plus.

Price seems about right being at a dealer. It is worth whatever someone will pay. Is this a haggle dealer or no haggle? Shoot em an offer they can't refuse.

Agreed. I don't feel that's over priced at all. Especially if the timing belt service has been done.. Love the color too!

Just curious - what is big money and for what kind of LS430?

Big money to me would be anything approaching $18k or more (doesn't matter if the miles are low, if it's a 200k car given, 300k car maybe, nobody can drive those miles, time is the factor, not mileage). When I was shopping in 10/16, the dealer 4 miles from my house had one for $23k. It was an '06 with 61k, insanity.
