Default Exhaust Replacement (leaking)

2004 LS430 120K

I noticed a slightly throaty rumble, took it to the independent mechanic today and asked him to put it up on the lift and find the leak. Found several leaks, one at the flange from the first converter to the split pipe, several leaks in the x pipe (rusted through), and one of the mufflers is going through. Leak is bad enough it is throwing a code every 3rd day. (exhaust 2 bank or something)

1. What is the best way to replace everything from the cat back? Not looking for some loud aftermarket system.
or
2. Try and patch up the existing system to buy some time with fiber
Amazon Amazon

3. sell it and buy another LS??

Do you have a muffler shop in your area? Not a mechanic, a true muffler shop? They should be able to cut/weld/patch in the Y pipe and connectors. A new muffler is probably in order.

I do not believe you need to replace the entire system. That is overkill.

We have a little shop (no appointments) Muffler Man. That is all they do. They can make any joint, weld, bend, cut, drill. Very reasonable prices. I can buy a part online and they will install it for the labor.

I am in Columbus Ohio. Let me know price on the parts and your time frame on your custom exhaust.

I am going to check out several local shops. Pretty hard to find a true muffler shop, most are chains, hanging new parts only.

Has anyone replaced the exhaust with another one? After market, custom?

Too old for some loud, got that out of my system when I was young! 1973 Nova with A small block chevy, cammed up, with headers and cherry bombs directly off the collectors terminating under the middle of car! Very loud. First name basis with all of the local small town law enforcement officers.

I am in NY and within 2-3 weeks I will be getting my custom exhaust made I would sell you my entire stock exhaust from the 2 front cats back for $300 so two muffler sections, y pipe, an resonator and exhaust tips for $300 plus shipping or you can pick it up your choice. For the custom exhaust I am doing 2.25 piping with x pipe and 2 greddy mufflers. I am getting it done with 304 stainless steel. There is little to no aftermarket parts for the ls430 exhaust wise there all Japanese companies and they are usually about $1000 and up.

There is parts listed on ebay for what you need

Muffler $150 plus shipping

Update: Went to local independent shop yesterday. Need a Y pipe in the front. Have to cut it and slide it into the front converters because the flanges are warped. Also both mufflers are leaking in the back. So new Y pipe in the front to the second cat, 2 new mufflers and reinstall the factory tips on the lifetime mufflers. They are going to do all of it for $424.63 with tax.
Seems like a pretty fair price to me.

slightly off topic
They did not have time to do it yesterday so I have to go back Monday/Tuesday. They have a different setup. First come, first served. No appointments. They have a piece of adding machine paper on the counter taped down, manager asks for what you are driving and it goes on the sheet in order you came in. 30 minutes from my house so I elected to wait. Little frustrated that they could not get it done after I waited 2 hours, Oh well. They have been in business for 40 plus years. Slightly rough area of town, good people watching. They pull your car in, look at the exhaust and come tell the manager that you need a muffler and tailpipe. He says $140 you ok with that? Lady says yes, they take off one piece of exhaust and realize she needs an additional tailpipe. Mechanic tells her and manger he says ok it will be $175 is that ok.. Nothing in writing or anything.
