Default 2003 LS430 Sport Shocks

Hello,

The Shocks on my LS430 are worn and I need to replace them. There are the regular struts and Shocks not the air shocks. It shows that there are sport shocks available for this vehicle. Do I need to change other equipment (springs, etc) to the sport package or can I just simply swap them in as is.

Thanks!

You can use the sport shocks or the regular shocks. If you already have regular shocks, don't expect much from the sport shocks if you still have the regular springs. If you want the full sport package, you would need the shocks, springs, rear sway bar, and control arms. You could also upgrade to sport shocks with aftermarket springs like Tanabes.

Plenty of options... just have to figure what is best for you and your driving style or desired level of comfort.

Thanks. That’s good to know. Are there Tanabe springs for the stock ride height with a bit of a more sporty feel? For control arms do you need them for the stock height?

No, Tanabe springs will give you about 1 inch of drop. The OEM sport springs will leave the ride height the same and are supposed to be like 5% firmer over the regular springs IIRC. The sport control arms just had a firmer bushing to help enhance the sport pack option.

If you preload the stock springs by lowering the car 1" and use Tanabes, wouldn't the combo tighten up the ride? Also add a Sports (or Ultra Racing sway bar) and Michelin Sports or comparable. Sure the full Sports package is better but the full conversion is a project. I found a perfect low mileage 06 430 (stock) and considered doing the conversion (using Tanabes or similar). If it's not DIY, it's expensive. I did drive a GS430. Lots of fun but I'll keep my 430.
