I've done 2 layers of 5% on all windows with a single layer of 5% on the front before. Great for sunny days but really sketchy at night lol. I had 20% on the sides and 35% rear with 50% on the windshield too. That was actually a really good setup but not legal in my area so ended up taking it off. I think 50% on the windshield is great if allowed by local law.

I have 70% on the front windshield and it’s enough to block the sun and not too dark for night driving. If I could do it over, I’d install 20% on all windows and keep 70% on front windshield.

Legally, you can only tint down to the AS1 line. I can't imagine tinting the whole windshield or any liability it might create from hindering your ability to see at night.

Your tint shop said to do 50 % I'd go for that. Just make sure you have lots of insurance if you drive at night. I don't see ( ha ha ) any serious problems. Not too many people tint the windshield. Post pics tomorrow please.

Be prepared to tint the front windshield every year as even the most incompetent safety inspector will fail you. Having had whatever the lightest tint was on a CTS-V wagon it worked well in the Texas sun but decreased my night vision. I certainly wasn’t devestated when I failed my inspection

I'm not a fan of tint on any of the windows of a car.
Going out on a limb here, and probably going to offend you AZ of FL or CA folks out there who mostly use tint for sun protection, but living in the northeast, I personally find drivers operating vehicles that have tinted windows are generally----more aggressive, more rude, more selfish, more dangerous, and simply poor companions to 'share the road' with.
Call my thoughts whatever you might---biased, prejudicial, or closed minded, but those are my actual experiences whenever observing a tinted vehicle, or my direct experiences interacting with a tinted vehicle. I didn't have some sort of life altering event related to a vehicle with tinted windows, but simply my consistent observations and experiences since legally driving beginning in 1989. Are there nice folks who drive vehicles with tint? Of course. However, I find more so than not, that drivers of tinted up vehicles have some sort of negative affiliation with their driving habits.
Jim---my comments in this thread aren't directed at you. We've texted numerous times and you're a kool kat and seem like a nice dude. I'm sure your 'manners' on the road are respectable too. So as to not to thread jack and keep on point---my vote is for no tint, anywhere on the vehicle!

I run 5% all around and 35% on the windshield of my LS430. The tint doesn’t affect my vision at night due to how bright my factory headlights and foglights are. The windshield tint makes a big difference in reducing the heat that comes into your car. I also love the added privacy. I ran a similar setup but slightly darker on my SC300,
For cars with dim headlights I would go with a much lighter ceramic tint for the windshield. I plan to do 50% on my ES300 for that reason. My sister has 40% tint on her windshield and 20% all around on her LS430. Her tint on her windshield is hardly noticeable on her car.

That seems really high, is it more because of the windshield? Are they cutting it by hand or are they using machine-cut pieces? What tint did you end up going with?
Limo tint on my old Scion xB was $180 for everything but the windshield, using machine-cut pieces for an exact fit. Maybe the windshield is more due to how large of a piece it is?
Looking forward to seeing pictures once it's done!
