no rear ac, no dice. This happens to GM Suburbans etc. a lot and it's cost prohibitive to fix. Just me, I can never "ignore" a major issue and pay top dollar. Sure if it's $1000 and rear ac doesn't work and air suspension doesn't work, maybe. But not at $6k.

yeah, the rear suspension is going to be $1500 to replace as i can do it myself. Just a matter of when it goes...

The rear A/C isn't a deal breaker to me. The cabin is small enough to get A/C from the front. Although i'm curious as to what would be the cause for him to cap off the rear a/c and what the potential problem was.

I'm going to head back down there today and tell my buddy the news.

my understanding is vehicles with rear ac have an evaporator in the back. If it has allowed gas to escape due to a leak, I would be concerned if it could have damaged the front/overall system. I know on Suburbans, the folks I know live without AC as a result in the entire vehicle. On my buddy's Navigator, his front AC does work while the rear does not. That's my concern...

rear a/c was capped off, probably because of a small leak. He did it because he has no one riding in the back and didn't want to pay $1500-$2000 for the repair. Took it for another test drive. Just small nitpicky things that i can live with. It rides well, has power and everything else seems to work on it. Offered him $6500. Lexus dealership told him anywhere from $6700-$7200 would be fair.

just got the offer rejected for $6500, he wants $7000 so i said no, can't do that with the rear air not replaced and the rear A/C not working. We'll see if he comes back.

The rear a/c problem and the rear suspension are items you are aware of presently. What about things that you first discover after taking over ownership? It would be a good idea to have some kind of cushion for the unexpected which can add up quickly. Good luck.

well, i caved and picked it up after i took the wife for a drive in it. She said it was so smooth and quiet so that was an indication for me to just get it done and over with. She has to drive it as well to work and back as it will become our regular commuter as she works nights and i work days. The Sequoia will become our soccer, dance, lake vehicle

$7000 Cdn and comes with an extra set of Nokian winter tires on 5 spoked rims with about 3 seasons left on them. My wife did pick out some rust JUST starting to peek through on the rear fender under the plastic/rubber. Will have to get some of the stone chips out of the front of the hood as well. My wife is pickier than me.

The colour combination is Briarwood Pearl with black leather interior. So, here's hoping it lasts another 100000 miles! Anyone know where i can find the paint code?

The paint code is on the black rectangular build/trim tag located low between the front and rear driver side doors. The code is in the lower left corner.

Anyway that would be my concern with any high mileage car. If the price is low enough, like 2k, imho and it drives fine, you can simply drive it into the ground. If you face a major repair, then let it go. Just as a reference, it seems to me that 2006 cars are 4 figures now on the lower end. So say a car with 130k is $9500. What should a car with 285k be? Mileage and time are the enemies of all cars. Mileage in itself does not seem to be as much of a factor on the LS430. Then there's time.

Me personally, I may prefer to pay a little more, and take something off the odometer...it depends...I would rather pay 7k for higher than 130k, than say 5k for 285k. But we don't know what price you are looking at...remember for us used car buyers, the dealer is generally not an option for service. I drove mine in with 81k, and they recommended over 5 grand of repairs (none of which were really needed).
I agree about buying down mileage on these older LS430's. IF you can find a relatively low mileage car that is not over-valued. I test drove one with 250k that was remarkably solid, but was 3-4000 too much since I think the dealer was in live with car's rarity (UL). And so the search continues....

Default trying to pick up a high mileage ls430 2005 - good idea?

I ran into a 2005 ls430, the guy is asking 2500, he has the car since 2007 - pretty much all service records/ every 5k miles. The car is sitting on 320k. The interior is very clean some paint fading on the quarter panel. One door actuator is not working, it probably need brakes soon.
what do you guys think, I am not stranger to these car and was looking for a beater Lexus and I stumbled on this

$2500 doesn't buy much anymore, so just ask yourself if you can find anything better at that price.
