Advice on buying a high mileage LS430 (merged threads)

Well, I tend to agree to a point with this reply. I think that if one is looking for a sub $3000 car that will be reliable and fairly easy to fix in terms of repair AND parts at a shop, it is difficult to say no to a panther body car. A lincoln TC is the next best thing when it comes to being a reliable tank. You do not want any part of a 1.4t Cruze, trust me, I see them daily at the shop. POS. Once that plstic check valve sucks itself into the intake, it's over.

Wow... that sounds like a great deal! I prefer 04-06 but that is very tempting for that price. I would even risk changing the TB myself!

I used to drive ls430s daily with over 300k miles, I think the highest I saw was 349XXX, all ran like new. as long as fluids are good and you don't see any leaks I wouldn't be scared of mileage, they are built at the most prestigious plant in Japan along with the landcruiser. from wiki: " The Lexus LS has been consistently produced on dedicated Lexus assembly lines at Toyota's flagship Tahara factory,[143] located in the city of Tahara, in Aichi Prefecture, Chūbu region, southwest of Nagoya, since 1989.[102]
[144] Tahara remains the sole production site, having inaugurated its new line number four specifically for assembly of the original LS 400. "
fun fact:The LS430 was also designed using a windtunnel so it is more aerodynamic than basically any car out there. .25 Cd

the market for any car with more than 200k is very thin, regardless of condition or model. Sellers know it too, because very few inquiries will come in. But that's why the LS is likely a good bargain, it can be bought and used reliably with high miles. somewhere between 2 and $3k for such a car, if you are a DIYer and the car is in great shape, congratulations, you now have an extremely cost effective, reliable, comfortable platform for years yet.

Auto Trader LS 430
Still in great shape
It’s just ridiculous lol
Hello Everyone,
New to the Forum, thank you for having me. Buying an 05 LS 430 this weekend with 124k on it. But, to add to this conversation, there’s an LS on autotrader currently with 489,517 miles on it right now or something crazy.
Thanks All!

welcome & congrats on getting your car.
reading through these comments makes me feel better about my wife's hand me down LS. it currently has 197,800 on it. i just had the timing belt done and i'm trying to fix things as best i can/get it to a vehicle to the way i want it. reading these comments make me feel better about deciding to keep the car (we were on the fence about getting rid of it). but i was driving a T5 S40 volvo (which was a nice quick car) and going to this car is a world of difference. the LS is so much more comfortable (although, i thought her old ES330 had more comfortable seats).
i just need to get this thing cleaned up and the way i want it.....she did not take care of the car at all.

Because I rent cars at work, there are times I wish I had the same modern features on at least one car at home. People take them all for granted today, it's like all cars have high res screens and neat features. For example, I got the Nissan Rogue in Detroit, and it had 7 miles on it. I'm pretty sure that I am the first person who spent multiple days driving this car, it was as if I had bought it brand new. Even though it didn't drive well, even this base car had radar cruise, XM311. high res nav, etc. etc. Thick leather trimmed heated wheel (steering no feel though), etc.
But I tell myself there's a reason why you drive old cars, finances (as in payment avoidance), so I truly have every intention of driving the LS430 to 300k, and more if possible. It was intended to replace the 1998 Nissan Maxima. I honestly think they are worth maintaining. And there was a 1996 online that was at 983k, supposedly never any engine work, but tranny rebuilt.

If you maintain them properly, Toyotas don't break. Its really that simple. I've seen 2L-powered Hilux utes with well past 1 million ks on them still ticking along like normal, Matt Farah's UCF10 has over 1 million miles on it and still runs like a swiss watch. Most of the HDJ80 and 100 Landcruisers for sale here are past the half-million k mark, and they show no signs of dying any time soon.

I was looking at a LS 430 on Youtube. Told my wife I am interest in it. She said "No". I have 2 vehicles already. Look so nice, comfortable and reliable. One day! I will get one. Sorry about my blabbing.
