Thanks to all those who pointed in this direction. SIA rules. Get the deal on ebay, its only $135 as opposed to on their on web site, its listed as a $180 job.

Praise be...
Did you have anything else you had to do other than pull out the ECU, send to SIA, and then replace it when it got back? You didn't have to do anything with Techstream or have to take it to a dealership to have them sync it up with the car?

No, you only need to program an ECU to the car if it's a new replacement ECU. SIA just repairs soldering on the original board, so everything about the ECU is original and should work perfectly with your car. If you buy a new tuned ECU from Quantum Auto, for example, you would need to reprogram it and pair your keys via techstream.

The repair SIA performs to the ECM entails re-flowing any bad/cold solder joints, repairing any bad/burned traces in the PCB, and may also include replacing some components (capacitors, resisters, etc.) if they look bad (burned). The entire job probably takes 30 minutes for an experienced tech.

Hi jabberwock, as a board tech among many other things I have agree you are correct and a good point I would like to elaborate on if I can be allowed, in that it maybe takes 30 mins to tech the board and find and fix problems sometimes.

Ughhhh, I've re-written this post over and over because I'm having such a hard time for the right words so here it is.
To hire a pro means they better give you more than a reflow and cap special. Better be extensive component testing, etc, etc, etc too.
Anything less than that is not much better than diy, short and sweet. lol
That's all I have on that... and just my opinion.

Add- simple caps and reflowing may be in the scope for many diy guys if that's all it needs as a "touch up" IMHO.
