Default Non ML, sound intermittently cutting out

So this just started about a week or two ago. It's fine about 85% of the time, but the sound just goes mute. Power to system is fine, I change inputs and power wise it's all fine but just no sound sometimes. No hissing no crackling, just nothing. Complete mute.

If I bang on the dash above the vent it "fixes it".

Wondering if I need a new amp or just if a connection is loose? No way I'm going to the dealership.

I did pull the fuse for the tilt wheel recently, but it was only one fuse and I got the right one. And, if it was a fuse problem wouldn't there be no power to the sytem?

BTW, this IS NOT the ML, it's the Pioneer on the base cars.

TIA.

Anyone, Bueller? lol. I know this isn't ML related (there's a thousand of those threads but barely any for the base stereo) but surely someone knows something.

Most likely, one or both of these "Mute" signal wires are loose (Below 1V)...

Thanks for this. How would you go about fixing this? Dealer is a last resort, but I don't want some Indy trying to rip me off and sell me a whole new system, either.

You would need to pull the unit out and test the wires and connectors - look for loose connection or nixed wire jacket that allows the wire to touch nearby metal (ground).

Please take a look at the link below for instructions to remove the radio...
