Default 03 LS430 - How hard to change exhaust manifolds / heads

Hello,

I have an 03 LS430 with a cracked exhaust manifold. How hard is to to change this part? Thinking of getting the PPE headers. Can me a buddy and a few beers do this on a weekend? What do I need to remove? Those manifolds seem really buried in there.

BTW I made a mistake in the title. I mean to change the HEADERS not the heads. Cyl heads are fine.

Thanks!

A couple of weeks ago, I post the complete set of mechanical drawings for the 2001-2003 LS430 (see link below). That's probably a good place to start evaluating how difficult the work may be, and what tools and parts you may need to complete the work.

If you have a full set of tools and access to a lift, then I couldn't imagine it being too difficult. I've had a good look under there and while it does look tight, I have seen far worse (try doing anything on a V6 Contour). So with the right tools, enough hands and a big enough box of **** I'd definitely have it done in a weekend

For the tools it seems like just a regular socket + extension + swivel kit. I'm just wondering about the sequence of operations. Looks like I'm going to have to pick the motor up somehow to get clearance to pull it out. Just wondering what exactly has to be disconnected. Also what the best way to lift the engine for this application.

Just wondering if someone's done this job before. I know you have to pick the motor up and disconnect a few things, but I'm wondering if there's a step-by-step set of instructions.
Any ideas on what type of lift to use?

I have installed ppe headers myself ask away you dont need to pick the motor up took me and my friend in a shop with air tools torches etc 8 hours. You have to drop the steering shaft use heat on the bolts on the block, drop the entire exhaust prolly cut the down stream o2 sensor and heat shrink and solder back on. Its not as easy as unbolt and go I have no problem answering your questions though if you have questions ask away somewere I even have a pic or two of during the install.
