I’m very confused about my subwoofer
I’ve got an 04 LS430 sport with nav.i just purchased it last week. I Assume that it’s suposed to have the Mark Levinson system correct? (How do I check?)
anywho, just did the sub repair and went to go install it and nothing. No sound no bass even when cranked up .. it’s a mArk levinson sub.. says so on back..
so i start examing it a little closer. The connector on my sub has a red and black wire for a total of 2... the connecter it connects to has 4 wires???
Am I missing something here ... what gives?
Thanks for the help. This is my first post btw... new user so take it easy on the newbie lol

Welcome to the forum, Alpha9.
The LS430 comes with 2 audio options: Mark Levinson or Pioneer. The ML sub-woofer has a single voice cone and is driven by a 2-wire signal connector. The Pioneer has a dual voice cone and has a 4-wire signal connector. Please take a look at the link below for more details...

The connector from the amplifier may have 4 wires on it. They are yellow, black, light green, and light blue. The ML sub-woofer uses the yellow for positive (+), and light green for negative (-). Can you take a picture of the connector with 4 wires?

The next step is to try driving the sub-woofer directly from the amplifier. Refer to the diagram below, look for the S28 connector on the back of the amplifier and splice in a short section of wires from terminals 3 and 4 to your sub-woofer and see if you get sound. If you do, you have broken wires between the amplifier and the sub-woofer. Otherwise, the problem is in the amplifier.

Thank you so much... do I need a connector for that portion of the amp or is it already plugged up?
Mill do this tomorrow for sure. Ok to PM you if I have questions?
Also the amp is located passenger air quarter panel correct?
Kinda by the bps dvd reader ?

Ok so took everything apart and connected it directly to the amp connector as shown. Nothing. No sound no base.
I hooked a door speaker from same model car to the amp... and it started working..
so seems the sub isn’t working? How does this even happen.
Can it be fixed? I’d hate to throw it away, I just fixed it lol..

Wow, you stay up all night for this?
The sub-woofer (or any typical speaker) is made of a voice coil suspended in a ring-shaped permanent magnet. The "+" and "-" signal wires are connected to the voice coil winding (coil of wires). As electrical signal flow through the winding, it creates a magnetic field around the wire. The magnetic field direction and intensity moves the voice cone which in turn moves the surrounding air to create sound waves.
The LS430 ML sub-woofer is a 16-ohm impedance speaker. Using a multi-meter, you should read around 14.5-ohm resistance. If you read a much higher resistance, that means the wire that form the voice coil winding is open (broken). Without a path for the electrical signal to flow, no sound waves will be generated.

Not to step on RK's toes here, but if you have a signal coming from the connector for the sub, you can replace the sub with an aftermarket sub such as the Polk Audio db840 DVC. Loads of great info on here about that sub woofer and installing it..
I installed mine almost 4 years ago and it's been fine ever since.

I def did stay up doing it that night lol.
so can I repair my sub? If I took the cap off of the voic coil?
Right now now I just have it unplugged and the lack of bass is depressing
