Default soft close trunk latch problem

is the soft close trunk available on all LS430 models? i read somewhere that someone had it on their trunk, but not their doors. i found someone parting out an LS that is somewhat local. i wanted to replace my trunk latch since mine wouldn't close. i was able to disable the motor, but now i have to open the trunk with my key, and i have to slam the trunk lid down to close (disabling the soft close feature).

but the seller that is parting out doesn't know if it had that soft close option. i didn't want to drive there and pay then install if it doesn't have the feature b/c then i could just keep the one i have.

not exactly sure of the year, but they did say it was 01-03 parts.....mine is an 05.

thanks for any help.

I believe it was not an option, but a standard feature. Am unsure about what years though. Suggest you take a look at a parts listing and compare to be sure. It runs in my mind that there is a difference between '01 to '03 and the later years.

My 2001 and my 2005 both have the "Soft Close" feature for the trunk lid and they work the same.

well, looks like the parts match between years. but i'm back at square one. still didn't work. not sure why, but the trunk will not pull itself down when i have either latch hooked up. i was looking, there is no motor or anything on the other side body of the car, just the striker. actually with the used part, it was really bad where i couldn't shut the trunk again. i ended up putting my latch back in b/c i could at least close it shut.

anyone have any other pointers on what else to look for?

Hopefully someone can post a schematic for you to use for troubleshooting. I think there is a sensor, because the closer does not kick in until the latch clicks. Rkw?

i haven't really tested anything out yet, but i took some videos as i was unloading my trunk. let me know if you guys see anything out of the ordinary or obvious. one of the videos i am using the smart remote trunk release to try to open the trunk. you can hear the motor moving (like it does in the other 2 videos), but the latch never releases. i am pulling up on the trunk lid the whole time too.

Maybe I'm a little late to the game here, but I had a similar issue...what I found you need to do, if it's the same issue.

when the trunk is open put the key in and turn it, it should make a noise from the motor, if it does, then just try and shut it normally, it should soft close.

well, no luck. with the trunk closed i hear the motor turn (like the sound in my videos). but with the trunk open, it does nothing. no noise or movement.

so weird....i ordered a new trunk button to hit when using my smart key (keeping the key in my pocket). only reason why i bought it was b/c the old rubber has deteriorated and felt like goo. so it was nice to actually have a button that feels like a button. it still doesn't fix my issue, but i did notice that when i put the trunk down to the point where the soft close should take over, and i hit the button, it will pull the trunk closed. still doesn't open it, but does pull it down. i ordered a new/used trunk latch actuator/motor. it should be in next week. i'll install that and see what happens. hopefully it will fix it, but who knows. if it doesn't it's going to be an expensive part thrown at the trunk for nothing, lol.
