Default is my car backwards?

My wife drove the car last so she likely used the mirror switch to fix the mirror.

As I was backing up today, the driver mirror tilted down. The switch was in the R position. I pulled forward, and moved it to L, and backed up. The driver mirror tilted down again.

Isn't the pass side mirror supposed to tilt down? Or is it both, but my right doesn't work? Or does my car think it's in Japan?

Both side will mirrors tilt down when in reverse when the mirror adjustment switch is set to either of the non middle positions. In the middle position, the mirrors do not tilt down in reverse.

this would indicate my right is defective, wonderful lol but I don't need the feature...almost think that before I owned a LS, on the what's wrong with your car thread, pass side not tilting was one of them...no biggie...

More than likely it's the switch. My 2005 does the same thing. There's a thread on here explaining the mirror position switch cleaning procedures. I need to find it and take that switch out and clean the contacts.

Now that I'm down to 1 LS, I'll be playing with the 05 more...

Great idea, because it's never worked totally correctly since my test drive in 10/16....the fact that my wife touched it, likely indicates the mirror didn't go to the correct position when she pressed her button (#1, I am #3, and my g/f is #2--lol j/k).

I feel these are wear items. The BMW tilts the pass. side down, and I purposely disable it by keeping the switch in the middle. Now, the mirror does not go to the correct position based on memory. It was replaced long ago under warranty, which again to me, indicates a mirror has a finite life, don't keep changing it around...
