Default Airbag light on after car sits for a day or so

I've noticed that the airbag light in my LS stays on after I start her up after not driving her for a while. (I DD something else) So far, it always turns off after I restart it.

Wondering if this has happened with anyone else.

I'm not too worried about it, I'll just put electrical tape over it if I have to. But maybe there's a simple fix? Why does it only come on after the car has been sitting?

Anyone? The light is annoying me. It will come on, then turn off after you drive around briefly then restart. Is there at least a fuse I can pull to get rid of the warning light?

Does anyone have any input they could share, at all? Surely this has happened to someone on here before. I just don't see myself taking an almost 15 yr old car to the dealer to spend god-only-knows-how-much just to turn this light off, but it really is driving me crazy. I have no idea why it turns off after a short drive or two. Hoping it's something minor.

What year is your car, 2004? On my Maxima, there was a "known" issue with the side airbags, and I had it fixed once under warranty. Then, it went out of warranty and I lived with it for about 13 years, unplug/replug and resetting the airbag computer. Not worth $800 to fix. The thing is with the Takata scandal which did not affect our cars, if an airbag system is malfunctioning, imho it's better to be disabled, not enabled....my .02

edit ps it doesn't fail a safety inspection with a flashing airbag indicator

This is obviously not a "common" problem with the LS430. Don't know how long you've had the car and if it has been involved in an accident (do you know). A malfunctioning airbag could cost a person their life. Not a good gamble to save even a few hundred dollars. Suggest you have Lexus diagnose the problem and then make you decision. But don't risk without knowing if you are doing that. Be safe.

2004 LS, I've had the car for almost 9 years. Never any accidents except a fender bender in my driveway, had rear bumper replaced. Car sits in garage 85-90% of time and I DD my Yukon, wondering if it were driven more this would happen less. It just baffles me that it will come on, then go off after a drive or two.

And yes, airbag light on means the whole system is disabled. Still, LS is a tank though, very safe car even without the airbags.

Thanks for your concern, though.

My radio sound (not ML) has been cutting out sometimes too, I may take it to dealer and just see what both things are. I hope they wouldn't charge me twice, to diagnose two problems. These dealerships are absolute scams, they take so much unnecessary money. 2 year old car I get it but this is an almost 15 year old vehicle we're talking about.

What is different about your condition and my Maxima, the airbag warning does not come and go. When it comes, it's there until reset, for safety purposes. I've never observed any warnings in this vehicle, but you're not talking about an indicator that the airbag has been disabled, because there's no passenger? I don't even know if we have this, never noticed. But on my wife's car? If you put a GPS or cell phone on the pass seat? The airbag becomes enabled. And disabled. and there is a warning. Googled it and normal. I try to keep such items off the seat so the airbag stays off.
