Akebono or OEM brake pads?
Hey guys i am replacing my rotors and pads soon on the 01' LS430. Have decided to go OEM for the rotors, but it seems that a lot of people on here recommend tge Akebono pads over OEM....is this only because of the brake dust?
I personally don't mind the dust, that's what car washes are for. Found OEM pads for 115 per set from local lexus parts warehouse...rotors are only 119 per for OEM...seems like a good price for OEM.

How much did you pay for your rotors Boca? I was just gonna order through the dealer but perhaps i can save a few bucks buying online...only issue for me is shipping since i'm in Canada...at least dealer covers shipping.

I vote OEM, after using Akebono for the past 8 years. Minimal to no dust with Akebono, no squealing or noise on forward braking, and stopping power seems good, but they chatter loudly when the car is put into reverse while the brakes are wet. I don't recall any noise with OEM under any circumstances, and do not recall having much dust if any with OEM.
Akebono designs and supplies OEM pads for many manufacturers worldwide, and my understanding is that Akebono is a world leader in braking technology and brake technology R&D, so this is probably why people trust their aftermarket pads. They invented and patented a lot of brake technology.
My next set will be ADVICS since I already have them on hand, but pretty sure I will go back to OEM after, unless the price of OEM goes up significantly and/or the price of ADVICS or Akebono go down significantly.

I'd go OE for rotors, maybe even OE for pads. I have used Akebono for about 10 years on 3 different cars. My front setup is all original, rear is centric rotors / akebono pads. I cannot stand that rust strip around the hat on my new rear rotors, ugly, and show how little of the rotor surface is swept. I don't suppose the akebono pads are any smaller than original, right? Can't be, would make no sense. The rotors I took off had the same rust but were cheap aftermarket, pads were akebono. Things have changed with current F sport cars, but Japanese used to put tiny brakes on big cars, cost I guess...

Sorry Kaizmauka, but I don't remember the actual price although I did get my local dealership to price match a Lexus dealer I found on line. For most parts I do go for OEM unless the cost is prohibitive.

You could get OE rotors from parts.com (hint it's gonna come from someone you could order directly from and pay more for). They are around 30% off list, and cost about $10 ea. to ship. Way more than Centrics on amazon? Yes. Reasonable? Yes, how much cheaper could they get, unless you are in the trade?
