Tbelt is something you really dont want to **** around with on these. yes its expensive to have done but its one of the most if not THE most important things that need to be changed IMMEDIATELY on any old lexus no matter how low the miles are. cause if anything happens to it, it will grenade your engine immediately. sure, they can last half a million miles, until they dont. ive seen them snap just due to age with no warning looking perfect. its the most important but also one of the post preventable disasters youll never have to worry about, provided its done right.

Just curious how many times you have seen this happen? Are you talking about timing belts in general or specifically on an LS 400 or 430 etc...?

Considering how a seized or leaking water pump can cause the timing belt to fail, the question can be asked.......Which will fail first, the timing belt or the water pump?

I guess the question is do you feel a thrill when you don't follow recommended maintenance intervals....if so, then don't do it every 90k and x years, you are likely to be ok. Same with healthcare, there are some procedures done at certain ages that cost thousands of dollars even with insurance. Good chance you wouldn't die from cancer either, so you can skip them. It's bad luck that if you skipped it, then something later develops. But think about it, most people pass away of natural causes that screening wouldn't have prevented. So a person can avoid the screening aka preventative actions if they want.
