Default Shifting gear only after warm up for 7 minutes

2001 LS430 with 270K miles. I have to wait at least 5 to 7 minutes to shift the gear to drive. What kind of issue(s) I am facing here..

Torque converter drains while parked, is your symptom after a parked interval or every time you shift into gear?
Obvious thing to check is the transmission fluid level and then trans fluid condition. Treated paper strips to
dip into your trans oil will give a basic assessment of condition. Do you have records of maintenance including
the transmission?

Have you checked the fluid level? It sounds like it could be low.
WS ATF expands dramatically with heat. Any recent trans service...? Any fluid on your garage floor or driveway?

The OP has a 2001 LS430, so, Toyota Genuine ATF Type T–IV (ATF JWS3309 or NWS6500) should be used.

I am using it for around 20 miles in a week and only on weekends. I do see some oil on the floor. It happens after intervals. (lets say after 3 days after parked) I don't have any records for transmission service or oil change. None. Thanks Mr. Mcomer.

First thing I will change the transmission oil and update the result here. I hope there is not in need of replace of transmission.

At this Point it pays to try a fluid change. Sounds like “ morning sickness” or a bad torque converter. The first series LS430 have bullet proof transmissions but of course can go bad. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Before you changed the ATF, did you notice if the old ATF have a burnt smell? Was its color very dark? Was the level very low?

You mentioned replacing the transmission strainer/filter. Hopefully you just drain the ATF in the pan and replace with fresh ATF, as opposed to flushing out the remaining old ATF. Flushing is general not recommended if the ATF is burnt or when the transmission is showing symptoms of mechanical problems.

The next thing to do is to park the car on a level surface and let the engine idle until the ATF temperature reaches 70-80 DegC (158-176 DegF). With the brake pedal depressed, move the shift lever through all positions from "P" to "L" and back. Then confirm that the ATF level is within the two notches on the dip-stick that marked "HOT".

Also please provide the following information...

1. With the air conditioner off, please record the engine idle speed for "P", "R", "N", and "D".
2. Can you confirm that the engine will start only with the shift lever in "P" or "N"? You should not be able to start the engine with the shift lever in any other positions.

Fully drained brother. Oil wasn't good, too dark and very think. The level was okay. Waited about 2 hours to get last drop from transmission. Not flushed and machanic also advised to not flushed . The rpm not changed dramatically when gear changed. Checked level for each possition two times to make sure the level is correct. It statrts only on P. Thank you gentlemen.
