Default Outside mirror replacement

I've seen a host of threads about replacing the outside mirrors. I see plenty of mirrors on Ebay for $200'ish, much less than Lexus part sellers.Every thread I've seen suggests the OEM mirrors (mine is 2006, passenger side) are auto-dimming, but every mirror on Ebay states it is NOT auto-dimming. Are people forgoing the auto-dimming feature? I really don't care about the dimming, but I want both mirrors to do the same thing. My right mirror doesn't adjust with the control, which is why I want to replace. What to do?

Before spending money, I would take it apart and clean the contacts. That's the first and most common issue with the mirrors. I also would go as far as to pull the switch out of the dash and disassemble it, clean all the internal contacts and reassemble with some dielectric grease.

There are a few great threads on here discussing the side view mirror repairs and the mirror control switch cleaning.

The dealer has offered to install it if I buy one so I'd just as soon go that route.

What color is your car?

To me it would be insane to get rid of your oem auto dim mirror glass just to replace the motor. There are countless used solutions available from wrecked cars

If you really want to replace your mirror, find out first if Lexus even offer LS430 without auto-dimming mirror. I do not think there is an LS with regular mirror (someone correct me if I am mistaken here).

There is a good chance those seller on Ebay do not know what they are talking about. I do not think you can see if the mirror is auto-dimming without having the mirror connected to a running car. If the donor car is wrecked, maybe there is no way to verify it so that is why the seller said not auto-dimming.

Even better if you can find a wrecked car yourself and pull it, so you know you are getting a mirror from LS. I found an LS last week that is being part-out, only to find out later someone bought the entire car. I am looking for a mirror too, but the motor itself. Mine have a folding problem, which I think Lexus recalled a while back, but I think it is not covered anymore

Most people here with working mirrors can't tell if the auto-dimming is working anyway. I may just leave it. It's only the mirror control that isn't working which doesn't bother me since I have it where I want it; I was concerned about the wife.

I go back to my original suggestion. Pull the switch out of the dash and clean the contacts. Super easy job and you will be happy with the results.

Then, take the money you saved and go have a nice dinner with your better half !
