Steering Wheel controls all died together, any ideas on how to fix
I have a 2002 LS430. Yesterday I went to give a short beep the horn at an idiot in front of me at the light who was on their phone and nothing happened. I then discovered that every control on the steering wheel did not work. The cruise control also does not work. the turn signals and the wipers do work normally. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks.

per Lexus parts catalog the clock spring assembly part# is 84306-50160
I only found a couple of listings on eBay and they are a bit pricey, but brand new
taking it apart is not difficult, you take down the column covers by removing 3 screws and taking out the plastic cover, and then 2 torx screws in the back of the airbag cover, pop the airbag (disconnect the battery prior to all this)
loosen the big nut that holds the steering wheel, don't take it off all the way, yank on the steering wheel to get it loose, then remove the nut and the wheel. it should be pretty similar to this SC430 vid
if this was me and i already checked all the fuses to make sure it's not just a blown fuse somewhere i would take it all apart and check the clock spring itself for resistance/continuance before ordering the new one
I'm not sure what the resistance should be, maybe rkw7780 can look that up for you?
another vid as well

Thank you so very much for your help. I will check the fuses first. Don't have a lot of experience in testing resistance but I can try and figure that out also. You take the rest of the day off!

if your fuses are good, try turning your steering wheel to different positions while hitting your horn. our was kind of like that, but if you turned the wheel slightly it would work fine. eventually everything stopped working (horn, other steering wheel buttons). i changed the clock springs/steering wheels on other vehicles i had, but i had never done it on a Lexus. when i search my part number on ebay, i found some very inexpensive clock springs (like $17 shipped). i figured, since it was my labor, what did i have to lose. worst i would be is out $17 & my time. i think maybe i was looking up the wrong part number the back housing was a little different & wouldn't fir onto the steering shaft. i took the back off my old clock spring and put it on my new one, and it fit. everything works now horn, radio controls and all. except the one display button only shows the temp on the middle display now. i can't get it to switch to directions or anything else. but, i never really used that anyway, so i just turn it off. for us, this was going to be an extra car, even though i'm driving it daily now. so i didn't want to spend that much on a clock spring. good luck with your situation.

I wanted to add to this thread since it helped me out with my clock spring replacement. Pretty much everything went as the video above showed other than I was having a hard time figuring out how to get the clip below to come off. I was trying to be pretty careful because I kept feeling like I was about to break it and couldn't figure out how to get the release mechanism to work. Finally I figured out that you don't push in on or lift up on the tab and pull....instead you slide the release mechanism. It slides to release, not lift or push in like other tabs.
Also, you can look at this thread for a little more info and pictures on how to remove the steering wheel.
