Losing Signal Strength (I think) on Aftermarket Sub in Trunk
So, I had a sound shop put a 500W Kicker Solo Baric 10" in my trunk. They got the signal for the sub in the trunk by using a high pass filter. It sounds good but I know this sub can do more. I don't want to turn up the bass on the head factory head unit because I don't want to risk blowing the ML speakers.
My thought is this: Maybe they installed the high pass filter on the signal for the back door, or front door speakers, and maybe the ML amp already reduces the bass going to these speakers, as there is a factory sub?
This may be totally off, but I'd love to hear some thoughts. This sub flexed big time and gave more bass than I know what to do with when signaled through RCA's on an aftermarket head unit in another car. Any thoughts on this????
Again, it really accents the soundstage perfectly as is, however, I want more bass.

I don’t really follow, where are you getting the signal from? One of the rear door speakers? If so this is your problem. When I did it I just installed a line out from the subwoofer output wires. This is the only way to do it — the door speakers are indeed filtered.
never really ended up being satisfied though so I ended up completely redoing everything with aftermarket.

Yeah, I took mine from the sub channel as well. No issues with my setup. Sounds fantastic with two 10w3's in a sealed box @ 600 watts rms. Blends well with the factory speakers.

Correct, I don’t know the terminology but I’m sure that part is right. I called the I stall shop and told them my theory, that they may have tapped into the interior speakers instead of sub, and he agreed with that as a potential theory. Either way he agreed that it should be hitting harder than I was describing and they want me to bring it in and they’ll check it out. Perks of using a shop, lifetime install warranty!
