Whirring Noise at Driver's Side Seat
#47
SOLVED!!!!
After several hundreds of dollars, my mechanic found the noise.
You ain't gonna believe it!
Well, you probably will....
The rubber boot beneath my shifter was split wide open letting all kings of noise come in. Whine, wind, road....That's why it only got loud at 40 mph.

I had to buy a used shifter on eBay. You can’t buy just the rubber boot. Go under the car and look up above the driveshaft. I hope it’s your problem. Easy fix.

Thanks for posting the solution. I KNOW the rubber boot is split open on mine, I saw it when I was undercoating mine this fall. I've been regularly hearing this howling noise between 35-40mph since it's been cold. Still in disbelief it could be something as simple as the shifter boot, but seeing as how I already have a spare shifter in my garage I am going to try swapping it out.
