Whirring Noise at Driver's Side Seat
For the longest time I can hear a slight whirring noise in the Driver's seat area on my LS430. Sort of a faint whistling whirring combo. Only starts at around 40 mph and doesn't get any louder as I go faster. I jacked up the rear end and went to 60 mph by speedometer and didn't hear it.
I have a stethoscope. I listened to the rear wheels and rear diff but nothing alarmed me as being wrong.
Am I correct in assuming this is coming from my tires? Or I guess it could be wind noise?
It is the loudest between the steering wheel and the center console.

Today I purchased a different brand of new Michelins. The whirring continued. Here is what I noticed today on the road. Whirring was most noticeable between 40-70 mph.
Below 30 and 90 and above perfectly silent.
I know it is not the tires and I don't think it is wind noise. Car has 85K miles. Fresh WS ATF (level checked at 115 farenheit) and PS fluid. Rear diff full of Amsoil 75w-110.
Am I down to wheel bearings? I am slowly losing my net worth...($930 for tires that didn't help a bit)
Stupid is as stupid does

If you figure it out tell me. I'm dealing with the same ****. Might be wheel bearings, I get no metallic sound though. 35 to 40 it comes and at 68 its quiet then 70+ its loud. Under 30 its quiet. I think both rear wheel bearings may be the issue because like you I thought it was tires but no. Some days it doesn't even do it. Just cracking the drivers window drowns out the sound.

That’s why I put my car on 4 jack stands and put it in gear and ran it up to 60 mph. Noise didn’t show up. That’s when I decided to go for broke ($900+) and get some different Michelin’s. New tires did nothing in eliminating the sound.
My thoughts are now drifting towards front wheel bearings as they didn’t turn when I ran my car to 60mph on the 4 jacks . Only the back wheels and driveshaft turned.
When I get to 80 mph, my car is perfectly quiet. I ain’t giving up yet.

Could the noise be coming from the sunroof, its weatherstripping, or a leaf/debris in the guide channels?
Try cracking the sunroof while you hear the noise and see what happens. Try opening the sunroof and inspecting the channel debris. Try applying some sort of weatherproofing or moisturizer to the rubber weatherstripping/gasket too.

I've been using that sheetsu stuff from Honda. I've slathered it all over the rubber.

Its best to get the car up on a lift and listen to each hub while spinning with and without a stethoscope. That should certainly eliminate one way or the other a wheel bearing.
