I would be looking at a buyback and fixing it. The right bodyman may be able to fix it well. At the end of the day it is an old car.
The most dangerous part of my job is the fact that I drive. Sales rep. Been a rep for over 40 years. Sales and service, 50-60 K miles a year just for work.
You don't drive that much W/O an accident...or 6 no matter how defensive one drives, they will get ya! The two worst wrecks over the years were what happened to you, rear ended hard. I credit my S class Mercedes for saving my bacon. I was rear ended by an F150 pickup @ 45 MPH. Folded that S class up to the back glass I damaged two cars in front of me due to the impact. The other rear end collision was the classic clueless blonde teenage girl not paying attention driving daddies big Buick. She hit the big receiver hitch on the back of my service van. Again, I messed up two cars in front of me, barely damaged my van, it sure damaged me. I had issues with my neck for 2 years after, lots of physical therapy and drugs. Trust me, you want the damage to be the car, not you. The car is lots cheaper to fix. This wreck would have likely broken my neck if not for the metal imprint of the screening of the cargo guard in the back of my head. Low back seats and just had the cargo guard installed a couple weeks prior. I am proof of how energy absorbing crumple zones reduce the severity of a crash. Trust me guys, they really do work.
I am driving the LS because it has lots of protection. The methed out young truck drivers piloting 80 K pounds are a holy terror. And they are on the phone...

Most of the accidents are caused by using electronics, they have to come up whit a jamming devices factory instaled in the car not be able to use them.
If you pay attention on the highway 1 out of 5 drivers are talking on the phone or texting.

UPDATE: Looks like the 19 year old driver is not responding to his insurance company(progressive). So if i dont hear from his insurance co soon i will go with my insurance co.
There isn't a snowball chance in hell the the damage will cost $1500 to repair. The trunk is about 3" pushed in. Also the drivers exhaust is crushed and the drivers quarter panel is rippled.Maybe i could put a new trunk lid on and use some bungee cord to hold it down.LOL
