Default 2002 Tire pressure

I’ve been running 28psi in my 2002 LS430’s 16” tires for years per the mfr. sticker. Mechanic recently wanted to pump them up higher, but I wouldn’t let him. Wife likes the smooth ride and we have never had any wear issues. It’s on its third set of Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus tires. Is there any advantage in running a higher pressure than what Lexus recommends?

Doesn't sound like you've ever had an issue,so why start now?

Also, I'd believe the manufacturer engineers over a mechanic any day, stick with the pressure required on the sidewall

The tire sidewall is typically max pressure which you should probably not stick to, the door jamb is what it sounds like hes been following which is better (as long as its below max pressure)

Absolutely correct, do NOT follow the sidewall! Sidewall is just the MAXIMUM pressure you can put in the tire per the TIRE'S MANUFACTURER, not the car's manufacturer. The CORRECT pressure in any car, which accounts for ride comfort, design of all suspension components, dimensions of tire road contact patch, and many other things specific to a particular car, tire size, geography, and normal road speeds, is indicated in the driver door jamb, glovebox, and/or owner's manual.

Always follow what your driver door jamb / glovebox / owner's manual says, in any car, not just the LS430. For the LS430, there are different specs for US, Europe, Australia, and GCC countries, and different specs for different speeds and passenger loads within those countries. I would believe the Lexus engineers over any mechanic any day.

My 16s may be old-school looking, but running the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus tires at 28psi absolutely give the smoothest riding Lexus I have ever experienced. Tread life on this is also incredible. I hope Bridgestone never stops production of this tire.
