Default 2006 LS 430 Motor Mount

Hey has anyone ever had to replace a motor mount that connects to the tranny? I have been getting a rumbling/ shaking near the transmissions when I stop at a light or stop sign goes away if I put the car in neutral was wondering if its a lot of work to replace --thanks

One of the easier jobs on these cars. All you need are 10 and 12mm sockets.

So easy it’s worth removing your current one and inspecting it before buying a new one

Peacebay speaks the truth but the symptoms you describe are the exact telltale signs the trans mount is failing. I'd just go ahead and replace it with the OE part not aftermarket.

Worst case I have an extra OE trans mount that I foolishly replaced over the winter that I can sell you for cheap. My 430 is like a hobby car to me where I’ve slowly been replacing (read: fixing things that aren’t broken) parts with OE parts to restore it to like new condition.

The trans mount was one part that I really didn’t need on my car at 85k miles. YMMV.

what mileage do LS430 motor mounts need replacement? same for all years? dealer recently suggested replacing motor and transmission mounts and at 157,000 miles they might be right. however some LS430 parts seem to last forever. dealer has habit of wanting to replace parts at certain mileages regardless of symptoms.

That would not be unreasonable to do at that mileage, use an OE one if you do it.

I don’t recall reading much on this forum with regards to motor mount or transmission mount replacement.

Kinda tough to pinpoint down to a specific mileage range. Start with the Trans (aka "Rear") mount as it's easier, cheaper, and 9 / 10 times will solve the issue. You may not need to replace the front 2.

I'm a weirdo I have OE motor mounts and the trans mount in my basement. I told the indie I'd want him to do it at some point, but I understand the motor mounts is not nothing, and they told me look here they are, no need at least not now. That was 2 years ago. I think in another life I wanted to run an auto parts department, I've got so many parts for 3 cars in the basement. I don't think that a "cracked" appearance means anything, I think movement does. Why, because my OE LCA bushings, which were installed early '17, have cracks. That's in just under 36 months. So I firmly believe in the don't replace parts just for the sake of replacing based on appearance. Do it on symptoms.

What method would you use in lifting the engine? I hear jacking it up from the oil pan is bad....

I consider motor mounts to be wear items on luxury cars. They were candy to my dearly departed E550. I went through two replacement sets in approximately 170K miles of ownership. An indy just replaced all three on my new-to-me 05 LS. It made a huge difference. The car is much smoother and quieter. The relentless pursuit of restored perfection continues. . . .

I finally had my motor mounts replaced. big improvement. I am just going to agree that at 158,000 miles the motor mounts were indeed worn out.

Is there a DYI for this? I am kinda bored and looking for a project. My LS has 137K, so probably due for a new mount. I am looking around and find a step by step that require raising the engine, so I assume that is for different engine mount?

Raising the engine is for the engine mounts. The trans mount is the rear most mount, and is super easy to get to. You do need to support the weight of the trans with a wooden block and a jack or something temporarily to swap out the old one for a new one.
